What's up everyone. New to the forum and new to everything that is the Tacoma.
Recently I was able to purchase a 2014 TRD Sport V6 with 45k miles.
Personally happy with this find seeing as it's not often I can get a vehicle I want in good condition.
I need help though understanding the packages and their respective maintenance.
So as far as I can determine it is a PreRunner, V6, TRD Sport, non 4x4, 2wd.
Changed the plugs and oil myself after buying. Driveshaft is a Spicer U-joint with no zerk fittings, not sure what model yet but seems to be sealed so can't grease myself. Also can't seem to find if there is a front differential based on other photos of similar models. This is creating confusion as to what I can or can't do DIY.
Can anyone sort this out by chance and help me understand?

    If it’s 2wd, there’s no front differential

You wouldn't have a front diff on a 2WD truck.

Pre-Runner is 2wd, no front diff, front driveshaft or transfer case. Everything else is the same as a 4wd truck.

Rear diff fluid can be changed, throttle body cleaning. Check ball joints tie rods, any other rubber or boot for wear.

Ah ok, so front differential only applies to 4wd. That makes more sense, thanks.

I did happen to clean the throttle body. Going to check the state of the rear diff this weekend.
As for the ball joints and tie rods, YouTube has been handy.

Not sure what the question is.

    2wd means no front diff.

If you're planning on replacing the rear diff lube, make sure you can open the fill plug before you drain it. It's a bummer if you drain but then are unable to refill.

People will laugh , but after the usual fluid changes I do when buying a used Toyota , I always either take the rear diff breather out and clean it or usually weld a nipple on it (after I take the little cap off) and run a breather hose up into the frame with a loop or two on the end.. I’ve had my share of fixing rear axle seals due to a clogged breather

You shouldn't need a lot of non-fluid maintenance on a 2014 with 45k unless it was driven through a swamp or a pig farm or something. That's barely outside of the first engine air filter change interval.

I normally would think the same. I got mine shipped up from Florida, and it was in Georgia as a fleet vehicle before that, reported that it was serviced extensively in that time. But because people are people, I leave nothing to chance and have to check things myself: oil cap showed signs of gunk, spark plugs had some oxidation.... went ahead and just changed it.

Absolutely. I've been saving maintenance vids and that fill plug was a key note.

Sorry, that was a lot of info. Mostly got my answers but basically I needed to know what package my truck has, and based on that, what is the DIY maintenance to look out for.

Oil cap gunk would mean short tripped; was not regularly driven long and hot enough.. not a huge deal but make it a point to monitor.

New plugs makes sense because 30k is the factory interval if using the regular NGK/Denso plugs. Most here recommend sticking with the factory plug specs and doing 30k since it's not that hard.

You might also consider doing the mod for the SAI (secondary air injection) pump. This involves removing a foam filter that can degrade and kill the pump, and replacing it with a PCV breather filter.

That might make sense with the age and low miles, otherwise that's helpful info. Regarding the breather filter and SAI, are there any videos on Youtube you might know of that can help me do that, or what to search for?
