Well, I was going to make my first post about my New '17 Tacoma MG 4x4 DCOR & mods I've undertaken. But this annoying intermittent harmonic noise drove me crazy for the past 3 months. If you are able to turn off AC system when noise occurs you will notice it stops immediately. Also, drive around without your AC system on. I bet you will not hear the "noise". Thanks to my awesome service department @ Stokes Brown Toyota as well as help from Toyota Engineering we were able to track down the root of the sound you are experiencing in clip above. The long short of it was - vacuuming down the AC system & recharging to factory spec as well as adding a "Toyota AC system lube" took care of the issue on my truck. I am no means a expert when it comes to ac systems so for those of you who are please forgive my brief description or lack of knowledge as to the name of exact part or amount that was added. I was told Toyota is aware of this but there is not enough documented cases to issue a service bulletin.
I will try & contact my sac rep & post a few more details later - traveling today.
In mean time try disengaging ac system.

It sounded a lot like the noisy diff like everyone complains about...but I had them do this fix first and it made the noise a lot quieter.

All I can tell you is that the harmonic noise in OP's clip was the exact issue I had. Believe you me, it was a issue to get "the noise" to occur when in the presence of a service advisor. But the crew at my dealership stuck with it & properly diagnosed and fixed it!

Was the high pitched whine you had with your MT at highway speeds while feathering the throttle? ~55mph-65mph? If you can find out how to post the PDF of T-SB-0186-17 I'd appreciate it.

Sorry, I was sitting in a airport while typing my original post. I mistakingly wrote to drive around with ac on - my bad, drive around with it off to hopefully stop noise from occurring.

 

Yup only when ac is on but doesn't happen all the time

I know this post is old. Been searching for an answer but no luck until I found this thread. Anyone figure this out? Diff? Control Arms? A/C? My 2019 has been doing this. No problems in the winter. As soon as it gets warm out (90+ degrees), this noise starts. Exact same intermittent whining noise as the post #1 video. Sounds like it’s coming from the transmission…I hope to God not. 2019 Pro A/T.
