When I put my truck in park the key will not come out of the Ignition. I have to disconnect the battery to remove the key. Can anyone help with the name of this Malfunction and part?

Its right under ignition connector to the column....

there's a plug you can unplug it......but that will also disconnect the key in ignition warning chime when door is open..

there are threads saying you can take that off and clean the gunk out of and make work again...

I just left mine unplugged......no intention to replace it... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O9sB1S7GpKk

The column shift lock went out on mine about 4 weeks earlier than that...

I had a backup solenoid just for that ......but turns out there's a little plastic arm that is actuated by the servo attached to the shift paw lock was broke in two......

Would not shift out of park......so I had to twist tie back that lock paw on shift to defeat it.......so no brake shift safety...

You'd probably have more luck finding Atlantis than that little 2" plastic arm...

Most likely the shifter bushings, I've fixed a few of them for this. The plastic bushings get worn out and the shifter won't depress the switch to release the key when in park.

So they put the auto shifter on the floor in the single cabs?

I would like to see a pic of that....

Idk, every taco I've ever seen was a floor shift. I know they made column shift ones becuase it's in service info bu I've yet to see one.

    Plenty standards....with the bench seat.....but auto's.....
that would be one funky setup....

never seen one of them pre 05....

dont mean to bite the hand that feeds....

And dont matter....my hint is just to defeat that solenoid....

you know back when I had my motorcycle license at 13 and 1/2 I might of needed all that safety crap.....

now in my golden years.....its just getting in my way.

No worries, I guess the OP will need to clarify what type they have.

At least on the bushings, there's a bunch of videos and tips...

my guess those go out 100K maybe...

That column solenoid probably last 3 or 4 times that...

so thats a rare club with most above 300K....not many threads on that....even less videos....like 2 or 3

In fact that part is so in demand......they stopped making it..
