I did the same cut and weld, but I made the 3 cuts on the backside and didnt cut all the way threw and just bent it and re welded it.

I spent like $3 on it so im happy, haha.

 

haha same here. $3 on steel, $2 on hardware.

good thinking on the half-cuts. noob like me didnt think of that.

I used 3x3/16 since its what I had laying around.

Yeah, 1/8 should be fine, esp if its being supported at the bottom of the mount.

I made mine to mount in the areas its lower so I could get a wider support to hold the jack.

 

I'm on a hill...damn lights are bright (headlights)

 

Ahhh you smart cookie. mine are supported on the higher side of that lip. It won't be as spread out, but it held up fine with the test fit.

I'm thinking of getting maybe some soft felt pad with an adhesive backing and sticking it where the mounts meet the bed? It'll act as like a spacer to avoid any noises and scratches.
