my 23 tacoma is my first vehicle from the 21 century so i don't understand how things work. is there a way to make the vents draw in outside air without using the temp control? don't want heat. don't want air conditioning. don't want to roll down the windows. just want air to come through the vents. are there even vents on this thing?o_O

All you have to do is turn the system off and then click the recirc button. It defaults to recirc when you turn it off, so you need to press that button to switch it to fresh air. Then you’ll get ambient wind through the vents as you drive.

    It helps!
OP, all joking aside; if you didn’t get a printed version, you DL it on Toyota’s site. This also makes its quicker for me to use/search.

As you can see from my signature picture on the left, I frequently drive with my back window open. I then crack the driver and passenger windows slightly open and get a nice flow of air coming in the back window. Sometimes my Golden Retriever and I disagree on how much the side windows should be cracked.

When I bought the truck with the back window I kinda thought "who the fuck am I"? But god damn opening that thing and a front window is a whole new level.

    thanks for all responses.
i have checked the owner manual but my brain isn't understanding all that clearly. i think i'm doing it right but when i turn up the fan and the temperature readings light up i figure i'm using either heat or air conditioning so i turn it off.

i thought the air recirculation button was only useful with the heat/air condition. i'll try it by itself.

i have used the rear sliding window but sometimes it rains when i forget to close it at night.

^If the recirc button is lighted, it's in recirc. If the button is dark, it's on fresh air. Note the "passive" airflow from the fresh air intake in the cowl through the cabin filter and ducts is quite limited.

If you want the fan to run without A/C, just set to a low temperature (a few deg below outside temp) and make sure the A/C button isn't lighted.

Toyota listened and made sliding rear window a bourgeoisie feature only available in premium trims in 4th gen.
