If they are good prices then you should pounce! You only live once, and if you want a specific bike and never get it, you'll always wonder what you missed out on!

What does a Tuareg cost to start with? I didn't look into them much because I am stuck in my safe boring Japanese bike mindset and the wild Italians scare me.

It's literally an italian T7 that costs about 1000$ more

The T7 is another possibility but they are hyper inflated here. I'd rather have the Aprilia and own something "special".

Honestly, if I had just a bit more dirt lust and didn't hate chains, I'd probably be chasing a T7. I love the styling on the bike, but I also know it's above my skill level and tends to feel top heavy. I also didn't like the feel when I put a leg over one at a dealership last year.

If you are in that price range and want something really special, check out the Moto Guzzi V85TT. I adore it aesthetically, the price isn't bad, and it's the smallest shaft drive bike that I know of. Certainly not going to be setting records on the track, but it's so pretty and unique that I would have one if I won the lottery.

My only gripe is that it's not liquid cooled, but with the V twin flipped like it is, I don't know that it has to be? It's just such a quirky and different look, half retro, half modern, and then a dash of vibrant, loud sass on top that I would really like to try one out.

All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!

My thoughts exactly. Unique, different and pretty cool as a result. Don’t know anything about how it would ride but it looks cool sitting on display.

CRF450L is very much like my plated WR450, it's a full blown dirtbike first and the fact that it's street legal simply is there to allow one to go straight from the house / spot you are visiting 2-5mi down the pavement to get to the trailhead, or the 2-5mi of paved road to connect the trails. Maintenance intervals reflect this for sure.

I will say if dirt riding is going to be the overwhelming majority (like 90+% of your riding) a plated dirtbike of this caliber is amazing. It's one of the best things I have ever done to my motorcycling life is go through the process to make my WR450 street legal here in CA. But it's absolutely NOT a bike that I go "hey let me hop on that to go to the other side of town to run errands". It gets loaded in the truck taken to the area I'm spending a few days to do dirt riding and allows me to never move the truck.

But for anything more than 10% of riding on the street. Something like a CRF300, KLX300 is choice. I had a freaking hoot on the CRF250 Rally I rented, 655 mi of mostly street Twisties and nasty roads on Maui, with a chunk of dirt as well, bike performed flawless.

The Hepco & Becker Lock-It tank bag is the shit. Not even mad about the cost.

Just starting to get my old 71 RT1 360 figured out, it’s been toasting batteries, these are 6V with no voltage regulator just a rectifier. I’ve owned this bike for around 20 years, so I guess it deserves a good going through.

Man I dig that bike! I rode a 250 like it in the 70s when I was a kid. Loved that bike.
