850 cases in the US between 1993 and 2021. About 35% mortality.

We literally have better odds of catching a lightning strike than hantavirus…

that does not mean you can stand out in a field with a metal rod pointed at the sky during a thunderstorm.
simple precaution prevents the rare event.

Imagine if Stanley decided he needed to prepare for everything that had a one in one hundred million chance of happening…he’d never get to The Office, much less out of the house in the morning

Love that video. Every time I watch it, it leaves me with so many questions. Has a Russian feel to it. Like... They had more explosives than fishing rods and brains that day. I am always left with the following thoughts:
    1. The video needs to be about a minute longer to see if they bleed out.
    2. They were BOTH extending their outstretched arms over the side? (Makes me think the dude in the front was ALSO holding a grenade)
    3. If #2 is true, did the second nade get dropped in the boat after the first one's explosion blew them back into the boat?
    4. If #3 is true, then it is possible that the second cooked nade finished them off after the video ends.

In the early 90s, my buddy's dad took his new NSX to work that day. We were riding bikes out on the driveway when he got home, he said "if you boys pull that bird out of the front, I will order pizzas". We had the bird out and the area hosed off for good measure within minutes, and the pizzas were on order. Good times!

    Die grinder.

And goggles. (Everyone always wears goggles when using a die grinder, right?)

OP's mouse is "Crispy" per his description... which means potential for airborne transmission of whatever that mouse had. Airborne is how hanta is transmitted.
I handle mice in traps all the time. I feel sorry catching them in garage but better them than my wiring harness.
I don't worry about that. I know they go in the crawl space under the house. Who knows what is under there and how dry it is. I wear a mask then.
I'd personally wear a mask for a crispy mouse that has to be rustled out, with my face less than 2 feet from it. but that's just me.
A mask is very easy insurance. risk/reward or something like that.
