So I’ve been driving 3rd gens since 2016 and recently test drove a 2024 Sport with 6ft box ( Canadian trim). First thing I noticed that the front door seemed and felt bigger and heavier and the whole truck felt taller and bigger overall. Truck did drive smoothly with good power and acceleration.
When I got back into my 23 Off-road I actually felt that it was the perfect size for my needs and I love the feel of the 3rd Gen, V6, cruise control lever and emergency brake handle.
No thanks on the 4th Gen!

Sounds like you don't need a new truck and you are making your self feel good about your current situation.

    Stick to your 23.

I’ve said that about every generation after my beloved 2000 first gen. Can’t believe I’ll have been driving Tacomas for 25 years next year, dang

There's no way, no how, in any possible universe, that the 4th gen Tacoma resembles "a full sized pickup."

If you want a full-sized pickup, buy an F250, a Ram 2500, etc etc.

The dead giveaway between light-to-mid-sized utility run-about truck (i.e. the Tacoma) and a proper full-sized pickup is the size of the rear diff & axle.

The Taco's diff is adequate for what it is, but it's quite small compared to the massive pieces of beef you see on trucks that can tow 11-14K lbs.

You drove a long bed 4th gen and are saying it felt bigger than your short bed 3rd gen. That would be correct.

Comparing a short bed 4th gen to a 3rd gen, I would say it feels more substantial in a good way yet still considerably smaller than a full size. Both are good trucks.

All Sport models are only available in the 6foot box.

Interesting, I didn't know that. I wonder why. Do more Canadians use their truck for truck stuff or something?

Not sure if it’s Toyota Canada that decided this or if it’s actually the Canadian buyers who want the 6ft box. It’s disappointing for myself. I think the double cab long box makes the truck look too stretched un proportional.

Agreed. I think it looks goofy unless it's up in the air a little with proportional sized tires, that said, I'd own a long bed stock if it would fit in my garage.

I’ve always thought the shortbed was the funny looking one. The bed and the hood are almost the same length and the cab is almost right in the middle. I owned one for 18 years and thought it looked weird and untrucklike the whole time.

I don't really understand the original post (I mean I do, but I don't). I came from a 3rd gen and it feels almost exactly the same. Hell, I feel it's easier to park and has a slightly better turning radius :notsure:

'98 was my first one, so 26 years.

    Then a 2005, 2009, 2013, 2016, 2020, and just got a 2024.

Not one of them has felt like a "full sized truck". lolzzz

My dad has a 2022 Silverado 1500 Crew Cab. Compared to my 2019 Tacoma Access Cab, his truck feels massive. Really happy with my Tacoma, especially for living in the city.

I always preferred the proportions of the short bed 3rd Gen to the long bed. To my eye the long bed looked stretched. Now with the 4th gen I prefer the long bed .IMG_4211.jpg 20220502_134606.jpg 20240505_130234.jpg

You are correct, in order to get the 5 foot box you must get the manual.

The 4G is larger and heavier than a 1G Tundra. It is also larger than a 1990s F-150. So your observations are correct.
