I think Mollie @Gen1TacoLady would quite like this revolver. It's a Smith and Wesson 38 Special Bodyguard with a laser. Comes in right arount $469. At least when I bought mine it did.

Don't own one.
Passed on shooting a 44mag revolver a few months back after watching it kick like a mule in my buddies hands; not tryin to wreck my wrist as I need that for

 

I wouldnt rule out a .380 since 9mm got a lil bit of punch to them and she's not overly familiar with firearms.

Ive shot desert eagle .50 and my .480 Ruger super redhawk isnt that bad. You know you've shot it though

 

Just my 2 cents which is really worth about 1/10 th of a penny on the open market. A shotgun would be better for someone that is not familiar with firearms. As familiarity and comfort grow, then change to something else or have multiple firearms ready at your disposal.

I always have a loaded 9 mm bedside and the 38 special in my desk.
