Can I use Siri with Bluetooth through the Tacoma head unit?

I have a shortcut set up to open my garage door, activated by pressing a button on my steering wheel and using Siri. It functions properly when I'm in my Highlander with the aftermarket receiver.

However, in my Tacoma, it consistently triggers the Toyota voice prompt instead of Siri through my Tacoma's head unit, regardless of whether I'm using Bluetooth or CarPlay. And it never understands the command. There must be a setting causing this, but I can't seem to find it.

    Any suggestions would be helpful.

If you have a 2017+ you can use the phone up button on your steering wheel to engage Siri. You just hold on it. I’m not sure if it’s for higher trim levels but it works great on my 2017 TRD Pro.

If you have a 2019 or older and you want to get even niftier, take a look at carsynctech.com as they have a wireless CarPlay module that connects to our stock decks. CarPlay natively uses geolocation and as you approach your home, the CarPlay Home Screen automatically pops your HomeKit garage door opener up and allows you to open it with a quick tap. This module also enables “hey Siri” which might help you as well.
I just installed this module and it’s absolutely fantastic. $270 gets it done (once they’re back in stock).

Thanks for the help. I have a Sport, but will try this.

I like that adapter, but mine is a 2021, so it doesn’t work for mine.

I think if you go into the car play settings through the vehicle's carplay screen (phone connected) then scroll to the bottom and there is a selection that will open up the carplay settings on the phone screen which aren't accessible without it connected to the vehicle and car play running, it will let you enable siri. My Rav 4 has a similar audio system and I seem to remember that setting, on mine it was already enabled from using it in my Tacoma which has a aftermarket system.

Can you try holding your phone answer button on your steering wheel to see if that works? In my 2017, that’s the way I can get Siri to come up.

Yeah, tried it. For some reason "Hey Siri" is the only thing I can find.

I did see a video last night that I need to try. that shows there is supposed to be a button on the carplay screen that I should be able to work with also when carplay is working. However, that doesn't help with Bluetooth.

Bummer. I'm not sure how the 2020 CarPlay systems work but for the 2017-2019 year, holding down the call answer button for a second engages Siri. On any CarPlay unit, if you hold down the screen layout button in the bottom left corner, Siri will activate as well. Best of luck!
