Compromise by moving it to the mythical "sitting room", the fully dressed room for the parties you'll never host. Then you can have a real unit for sleeping, watching, farting, etc on in the living room

Actually, yes... My grandparents have a whole room dedicated to an uncomfortable sofa and chair set I've never seen anyone sit in.
