    Here is what I have learned in some cursory web-surfing about Karr alarm (security) systems. READ CAREFULLY.
    ----------------

    * Many (most) buyers did not realize they were getting such an aftermarket system on their vehicle. They were usually told something like "this model comes with an aftermarket alarm!!! This is a great option!!!!! Hooray!!!! If you want this truck, and we'd love to send you home in it today, this is the way it is sold."

    --->

    Alas, this has been proven to be a dealer gimmick to protect themselves against buyers with low credit scores who may be a higher risk of defaulting on a loan. THIS IS ALL THAT THIS IS. It allows to dealer to track it more directly and remotely disable the engine.
    --->
    This is all in the fine print and if you aren't scrupulous with reading ALL of the pre-purchase paperwork, you will wind up with this crap installed on your truck. The fine print also often says the Karr system will be installed at the dealer convenience. Like at the first oil change.

    They didn't have the time or opportunity to install the system when you bought the truck, but as soon as it gets back to the dealer for the first oil change or TSB or recall, your truck has been flagged, the kit is on a shelf, and that Karr system is being installed while you think the only thing happening is your oil is being changed.
    --->
    Unless you are very astute, the *only* way to avoid this is to simply *not* buy the vehicle. Toyota did not force you to buy the truck. This has been proven in court.
    --->
    POOF PRESTO POOH POOH PANTS. THAT EXPLAINS A LOT.
    --->
    That stupid button is *supposed* to be installed on the backside of the Start/Stop button behind the dash. My hunch here is the OP was impatiently waiting on his/her oil change and the service tech just said something like "fark this, the install is almost finished, just screw the damn thing to the dash. It is in the sales contract I can see on my computer screen that has his/her wet ink signature on it."
    --->

    OUCH

    -->
    From what I can tell, the overwhelming majority of Internet feedback is Karr systems afford no incremental security over the Toyota OEM built-in system (or Honda) and that buyers are very disappointed to discover they are obligated to have one. From what I can tell, the wiring harness invasion is also fairly intrusive. And the owner may not be legally allowed to remove the system according to the loan contract.
    --->
    Lessons Learned and Suggestions:
    PEOPLE, READ THE SALES PAPERWORK AND UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU ARE BUYING. Too many buyers get wrapped up in being able to afford the monthly payment and agreeing to loan terms such as above, that it overwhelms their sense of fiscal responsibility so they can drive off the lot with a new truck.

    But they wind up with a truck that is encumbered with outrageous interest rates, 7 year long loan terms (insane - that EXCEEDS the OEM warranty), and equipment you don't want or don't need. Like a Karr security system.

    I don't think the dealer installed system has remote disable or tracking capability, at least the system they put on 2nd gens didn't. It was more of an upsell so they could tack extra markups on the purchase price.

    Dealers can and do put tracker/remote disable devices on some vehicles they sell on credit though although this seems to happen more with used car lots that sell stuff to people with bad credit.

    ^That's what you get when you don't read the FINE PRINT on the sales contract^

    See above. WAY too many buyers are negotiating their new truck (vehicle) purchase from the perspective of the "monthly payment" that can be afforded.

    DEALERS SALIVATE LIKE A LION ABOUT TO FEAST ON A WOUNDED DEER AND WHEN THEY DISCOVER A PROSPECTIVE BUYER IS PURCHASING FROM THIS P.O.V. ESPECIALLY IF YOU HAVE A LOW CREDIT SCORE

    Dealer doesn’t always own your vehicle when you lease either.

    This is some shenanigans on the dealer part or OP life partner.

    Hopefully they didn’t hack into steering wheel controls or some other electronics.

    not always a choice.

    my truck has the window etching. done poorly. but it was the only 2018 heated-seat inferno long bed i could find over the course of 6 months of searching country-wide.. i talked to them about it. they gave me the option, either take it, or the next guy will.

    They're Tracking you man!! Big Brother has his eye on you
    If you wanna live, do what i say and follow these 3 steps
    - Burn down your house and any possessions you have including credit cards, photo IDs, pictures etc..
    - Drive you vehicle into a deep lake with a mannequin in the drivers seat so they think you off'd yourself.
    - wrap your entire body in tinfoil then clothe yourself with some potato sacks and disappear into the woods with nothing but a bowie knife.......FOREVER!!

    what's with the fascination of 'being tracked'? i've got some bad news for you. if you own a cell phone, or have a credit rating, you're being tracked.
