Something serious for younger Whatever's to think about.

I'm a boomer and will never be able to retire. At 62, I'm already using my Social Security money. (msn.com)

 

I don't have to check my pocket for my knife, I know it's always there. And yes, I have shot the gun...works like a dream!

 

I'm 57, and in a very similar situation. I am not drawing Social Security yet, of course, but I will never be able to "retire" in the sense that I will be able to stop working and have enough money to live on. Very long story, but the short of it is I am in my 4th bought of unemployment, I have had to exhaust all my 401(k)'s over the years just to keep the mrtgage paid and live on, as unemployment doesn't cover shit. I lost first house to foreclosure, have filed for bankruptcy due to extended unemployment in the past. I just bought our current house about 18 months ago, and had no money to put down, so no equity yet, and now we may end up losing it because of my current period of unemployment. Even if I find a job in time to kep the place, I will have to kep working until I am least 85 just to pay this mortgage. I do not expect any employer is going to keep me after maybe 70....... I don't bother with worrying about what will happen then, as I have no control over it, and it isn't likely to be very pretty.

 

Keep your eyes open and never look back. Some things take time and luck.
