Having said that, I looked at the Mossberg Maverick Security. It's on the shelf here for $239.99. Good stout 5 + 1 shotgun.

I think for your purposes, it’s best to just keep it simple. A .38 Special snub nosed revolver will get the job done. Easy to load. Easy to maintain. Very dependable. Not too pricey.
I’ve had at least one firearm since I was 14 and have never needed to use it. Hopefully you won’t either. But, like a spare tire, always better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.
