So there’s this weird little black box on the underside of the seat with a little torx bolt on it. It’s magnetic and senses the position of the seat, I just stuck it to something metal lol, that fixed the airbag light. Not sure how safe that is but whatever

Looks like there's a few of these seats near me so I may just give this a go.
Did you end up putting in the seat jackers also?

Thanks for sharing! I always felt the Tacoma seats left much to be desired in comfort. This looks very promising

I haven’t done them yet but I feel like it would definitely help. They’re comfortable as is but they don’t lean back as far as I’d like.

fyi, the first gen ended in 2020.there were no gt86's during 2021. 2022 would be early 2nd gen, which was a significant model refresh. it's likely the seats are nearly identical knowing toyota, just be warned there could be major differences.

I just popped in the '22 seat into my 2023 TRD PRO. The Planted bracket holes had no chance of lining up. Had to drill my own, with the rear bolts as far back as possible, right into the flanges. The airbag light did come on though. Will try to erase the code tomorrow, as I did have the battery hooked up with no seat and turned the key for a few minutes, but the "weird black magnetic box" sounds like that's what's going on. Not sure where to look for it...

Yeah I had to drill out new holes in my seat rails to get the seat to mount up. I also had to drill out the rivets on the mounts on the seat rails to get it to lay flat on the bracket. The black magnetic box is on the underside of your tacoma seat on the side closest to the seat belt. Its held in with a small torx bit. Just take that off, plug it into the spare connector ou have under your seat in the truck and just stick the magnetic part of the box onto the bracket or something magnetic. Thats what got rid of the bag light for me.

10-4. Will look for it once the Corbeau Inflatable Lumbar support ships. GR86 forums seem to love them.
I didn't have drill out the spacers on the rear of the sliders, because their height lined up with the drop of the welds on the mounting flanges. In the front the little bent tabs also seemed to grab the front edge of the bracket perfectly. I did leave the jackers I had in the front, and the fit is just right for me. My butt is now in a lower position than with the stock seat, and I'm not brushing the headliner anymore! No regrets.

The little black magnetic box solved the airbag light. Love you, bro! Zip tied it to a metal bat and all's good. Removed my seat jackers, they're going on ebay. Super comfy in this seat now.

Little update on the seats. Been driving with it for probably 7,000 miles now and I'm 100% satisfied. You may need to install seat jackers under the brackets if youre on the shorter side, but I am 6'3 and the manual height adjustment on the side of the seat was more than enough to raise the seat higher than stock. Totally recommend this if you cant spend 2000+ on Scheel Manns or Corbeaus.

I am very interested in this. I have a couple questions

The factory BRZ/86 seats do not have lumbar adjustment regardless of trim?

Once you fixed the seat rail prox sensor (black box) you have no air bags lights? everything else plugged straight and is working INCLUDING the passenger occupancy system?

How are the seat bolsters? i have larger thighs and am concerned with being to tight in the seat area. do the bolsters restrict getting in and out?

I am about to order the planted industries bracket right now i'm so hyped.

This is a super easy straightforward swap. If you follow the thread properly you won’t have any airbag lights or issues. I’m 6’3 200lb and the seat hugs me perfectly.

Thanks. I can get the planted brackets, a pair of new seats, corbeau heaters and lumbar kits for $1200. This seems like a no-brainer to try. I am about to drop $2,500 on a single Scheel-Mann drivers seat to help my back and leg numbness.
Do you find the seat to be any firmer? My 2021 seat is killing my back and making my legs go numb.

Did you replace both drivers and passenger seat?

I only replaced the driver side seat, although I think the passenger side should be just as straightforward. The seat is miles better for leg and back support, but depending on how tall you are you may want to order some seat jackers to place under your bracket.

Thank you. I am going to reach out to some BRZ/86 forums to try to identify if the passenger occupancy system is similar to our trucks. I looks like they utilize 4 loadcells just like ours.

Keep me updated! I’ve been wanting to swap the passenger side for a while now.

Passenger seat OCS in a BRZ/FRS doesn’t use weight sensors iirc. Different systems. Not plug n play.

The OCS in those seats is around electrical conductivity or impedance or along those lines. Either way, not weight sensing.

I ended up buying a Scheel-Mann seat for $700. With the tolerance stack kit, it ended up almost the same price as a used BRZ seat once i bought planted seat bracket and Corbeau heater and lumbar kit.
