Driveshaft is in, now I have to find out if it's trail rated. Maybe a trip up into the Nicolet tomorrow?

Once I got into temps under 90*, I haven't had a problem since. I'm going to schedule time with my local guy to put it on some gauges to see what the pressure is like. It doesn't even starve for fuel if I do a long WOT pull. At this point I think it may be a bit weak in hot temps, so I'm going to monitor.

Alright I got a question for you guys. I know there is a million threads on the forums about lifts. But I am curious on your guys opinion for options on lifts. I am looking on upgrading my suspension since memorial day is coming up and I might be looking out for some deals. I would like to get a 3" lift and probably will do an add a leaf my main thing is I want it to ride alot nicer than factory to while riding a bit higher. Another point I would like to mention is I have to drive down a wash boarded dirt road everyday. Not very fun. I know alot of people have different opinions but I want to just hear from yall.

Good move looking now so you have a good idea what you want/need. I'm a fan of Dobinsons suspension, I have the IMS on my truck now. They aren't cheap, $1165 regular price for fronts, but they are damned nice shocks. While reservoir shocks look cool, probably 90% of the guys out there with them never get the benefit that the reservoir is there for (heat absorption from fast full travel action). Several of us have these and are happy with them.

Billstein sells a lot of shocks. They may be cheaper. I believe they have a smaller diameter body, which reduces how well the valving can work. From experience with what came stock on my truck, I found them on the harsh side. With the washboard you have to drive on, you may not like.

In the rear, I think you can get by with an add-a-leaf with Dobinsons IMS.

Overall, I'd look to go no more than 2" on the lift. More than that and you put wear into balljoints and CVs that you really don't need to. Plus, ride quality starts to suffer.

With all of the different options from different manufacturers, there can be a lot of info to absorb. Hopefully, others will chime in.

Oh there will be some mods all right
(These always become a recommendation of what people are running themselves but here we go) Since you are asking for opinions I would recommend limiting your lift to 2 inches. The Toyota front suspension is happier at 2 inches. Often you can get away with using stock upper control arms and you don't have to worry about CV joint issues like premature boot wear and or premature joint wear. Also while many do the ECGS bearing replacement as preventative maintenance, often if you keep it at or below 2 in you don't have to replace it because of the bad vibrations. For the front of your truck I highly recommend the Bilstein 6112s. there are better performing shocks but I strongly believe that dollar for dollar it's the most value friendly option. I have put them through hell on both of my Tacomas and they always come back for more. Also with the sway bar off they ride pretty damn good. As for the rear, if you can swing a full leaf pack I would do that since you see a big improvement in capability both hauling and off-road. As for rear shocks as long as you aren't like me and take slowing down as an insult, and getting airborne on a semi-routine basis, you can match up 5160s with the 6112s and have the cool factor of the reservoirs. When it comes down to the actual shocks for a lift kit a lot of it is what you're willing to put up with maintenance wise. I'm sure Fox and King and Elka are really good shocks but I simply am unwilling to have to have them rebuilt once every year or 18 months. That's why for the rear I went with the old man emu MT-64s and when my 6112s wear out I will be putting the MT-64 is in front as well (The 6112s really are fantastic but why wouldn't I want to go to an even bigger and beefier shock that matches my rears?)

I've had Dobinsons for 3 yrs and 40,000 miles. The price is right, they do not need to be rebuilt every 30,000-50,000 miles and I have never seen a negative word said about them. There may be better options for a specific application. For all around performance, off-road and on the pavement, they should be on your short list.

I agree with what the others have said about Dobinsons.
For the rear spend the extra money and get a full leaf pack. Your be happy that you did.

    Oh.... Oh yes

    I'd buy that

    I'd buy those too

Supported on keeping the lift around 2 inches. Toyota ifs plays really well within that range and the vast majority of suspension only limit down travel, they don't actually give you a wider range of articulation without doing massive amounts of rebuilding.

Dobbinson's makes some of the best suspension on the market if you are not super duper. Rich. If you are super duper rich you can get icon stage 7 or 8 or 10 or whatever or get high-end Fox racing shocks valved by accutune etc etc.

For what you are looking for, something like dobinson's would be tremendous.

@Crikeymike is the guy to talk to.

@AccuTune Offroad have some tremendous articles on suspension valving and what to look for for various applications.

At 2 inches, the factory UCA is fine.

New UCA's will make it easier on your alignment guy but it'll be fine using stock UCAs at 2".
