No surprise whatsoever these trucks are accumulating on lots. The external styling is polarizing; the i4 turbo is polarizing; the hybrid halo trims are polarizing; even the infotainment stacks are polarizing. The oversupply and cool market should drive these inflated prices down, which is good news for future buyers.

I think we all got used to lots being empty. Now that inventory is catching up, interest rates are high, and prices jumped at a time when people are now starting to spend less, we’re seeing lots fill up again. We’re trending back towards how it used to be. Discounts are coming back. My preferred dealer has had Tundras sitting forever, but the few new Tacomas they’ve received have all gone pretty quickly.

I want to say Gates was playing the markup game during Covid. I would periodically check their inventory since they’re not too terribly far from me. I haven’t looked in at their site in forever.

I know my preferred dealer has been giving discounts for quite a while now. The other dealer near me finally caved and started discounting as well. They held on for quite a while longer than my preferred dealer.

I’d bite but I just can’t justify it. 17’ Pro to a 24’ Pro I would be lucky to get half of finance amount. Assuming $65k sale to $32.5k trade in.

While nice, I can’t justify the price+interest, not to mention I don’t even want to think what the jump insurance would be.

Between the four closest dealers to me an hour west of Wash DC. All midsized stores. There are a grand total of 12 units available for sale on the ground.

On the scale of "flooded" to "sold out." That's much closer the to latter than the former.

I will be holding my position in TM. Despite all the YT click bait videos and the people who eagerly consume them.

Honest question for some of the guys who have an older 3rd gen.

Did dealers have a good amount of stock when you purchased? I know stock has been low the last few years since covid but how was it before that?

When I used to drive silverados(2012, 2016, 2019). Chevy dealers always had a ton of options to choose from so I was usually able to get the spec I wanted. It made me feel better when spending big money to know I got exactly what I wanted.

i always do allocation reserve request when i get a toyota vehicle from my dealer. if you buy off the lot they mostly sell at msrp. if you do allocation reserve request, i get min 5% off msrp, before covid i got as high as 9%. they make more money buy fulfilling toyota regional sells quota kickbacks each quarter.

I bought my 2016 near the end of 2015. Each dealer near me had 3-6 Tacomas on their lot. Could get 1K to 2K easily off an SR or SR5. Sports and Off Road dealers near me you had to work to get just under MSRP.

When I bought both of mine the dealer had probably close to a hundred of them, the main lot had 20 or so and their overflow lot was all Tacomas. 2016/2020. What they did not have a lot of at the time was Tundras.

Currently that same dealer has 59 Tacomas listed on their site, most of them have probably not landed, but if they are not pre-sold before landing, they will end up on one of their lots, just like they did in years past.

They are listing 39 Tundras. I'll also note the lowest price they have on a Tacoma listed is $44,015 on an SR5 and the lowest price 4x4 they have listed is $47,294 also an SR5

Out of curiosity I checked the Ford dealerships inventory that is next door (less than 100 ft walking distance) And they have F150's listed at the same prices as Toyota and Rangers listed starting at 39K.

I would say that a first time truck buyer just out looking at their options might be swayed by the lower prices next door, especially in the current buying environment. I am talking the average car buyer not the car enthusiast nerd that searches every package apples to apples and decides that butt coolers or something like that are worth 10K.

In spring 2020 when I got mine there were more than 10 Tacomas on the lot at my DC-area dealer. I wanted to get a Pro 6mt model but there was going to be a long wait for one, so ended up getting a Pro 6at they had on the lot for $1k under invoice.

Im not a big fan of the new styling but give it time , those suckers will sell . Im kinda in the market for a different truck and have been looking at the GMC/Chevy side. The styling of their midsize trucks are better than the current Toyotas imo. Im kinda iffy on the reliabilty of trucks compared to Toyotas though .

TacomaWorld has 61.8k members. This is publicly available information. You can see that less than 3,500 a month are active users.

There are approximately 2.2 million Tacomas across all generations currently registered in the U.S. as personal vehicles. With .87% of multiple vehicles being registered to single owners.

So, even if every TacomaWorld member were active, which they aren't, and assuming they were all located in the U.S., which they aren't; this forum would only account for 3.5% of owners in the U.S.

And that's not including the "World" part of TacomaWorld, there are Canadians, Mexicans, and South Americans that all post on this forum.

TW realistically accounts for less 1% of owners in North America. That's if 100% of TW members were part of the "buying public", which isn't the case. In the 4Gen forum, to date 43 people have posted a confirmation of buying a 4th Gen Tacoma, myself included. (Best estimate, as some posts it's assumed the vehicle is bought.)

So, all things considered, TW accounts for 0.11% of the buying public. If you tripled the number of confirmed buyers that bought a previous generation instead you'd still end up at 0.4% and that's a generous estimation.

I know you said "maybe" but 10% is a huge maybe when 0.11% is the best reality.

What bugs me is that the 4G Tacoma is pretty much $42k minimum (4x4 SR5) and easy to get a TRD OR well over $50k. Yet the amount of parts sharing and chassis sharing between multiple models plus being built in Mexico with far lower wages SHOULD have only made a marginal increase in price. At least in little mind. I understand that a lot of safety systems were added and the infotainment is bigger/better (subjectively), but I don't see where the massive price increase went, especially in the lower and mid-range trims. To me it's too close to full size truck pricing territory.

Additionally, I'll be curious to see how the Trailhunter and TRD Pro sell at over $65k without options, seems unreasonably expensive to me. Compared to the Ranger Raptor that has more power, a 10spd auto, front locking diff (why doesn't Toyota offer this??), active suspension and with every option it's barely over $60k. Tadditional ahe Ranger XLT FX4 (similar to TRD OR) with the 2.7T (315hp/400lb ft) and every option is $47k compared to the TRD OR hybrid maxed out is $58k (non hybrid is $55k), heck a maxed Ranger Lariat is $53k and that has leather! I hate to say ita, but I don't see the value in the Tacoma currently.

I love Toyota and have been a Toyota enthusiast for many years, not to mention was a Toyota Tech 15yrs ago. But the new Tundra doesn't seem to be the same quality as it used to be and I'll be curious to see if the Tacoma followed suit. The hype of the Tacoma seems lower compared to when the 3rd gen came out, I think mainly due to sticker shock.
