I have more in common with the people on here than the people I see daily here.

My aunt, dads sister, had a stroke about 2 months ago. She was doing okay, driving, just having trouble with her speech. Mom and dad went to see her yesterday (she lives at Myrtle beach). She had another stroke and is in the hospital again. Mom said it affected her speech even worse this time.

A friend of mine called me yesterday and said he had some bad news, one of the guys who came in the store turned his mower over yesterday and it killed him. He was around 80 years old.

    Sad afternoon.

Good morning guys. We've made it to Thursday.

Sorry to hear about your aunt and friend, sending positive thoughts your way.

While I don’t have a lot in common with this group as far as similar work experience, I really enjoy the camaraderie and respect that we have. It’s what makes this thread a good place to hang out. I’ve learned a few things just listening.

I’ve got a buddy I’ve known since 1st grade, we been close friends for 30 years. he barely responds to me now when I text him, whether it’s a picture of a project or asking him to go fishing. Hell I texted him a few weeks ago and got no response for a few days so I asked his dad, turns out he got a new number and never told me. Who’d have thought you could be better friends with strangers on the internet than you could be with people you’ve known your whole life?

A friend bought it new in 1977, he upgraded to a mulit-process TIG machine and gave it to me.

I tinker with it, mostly welding burning bent mower blades together  but really don't have any skill.

I can't like this at all.
Hope your aunt recovers soon, sorry for the family of the guy that turned over his mower. We lost my aunt 2 weeks ago at 79. I do understand.

This trailer has been sitting here for 6 days since hitting the deer. I’ve been thinking about how to get it home, was going to load it on the gooseneck but that’ll cut into my deck building time trying to fix it at home.

I decided to take the rear axle out and see what I could do. Took the lugs off and lowered the jack and it came right out.

Put it in the press and it kept rolling so I split a piece of 2” tubing. Put it back on the table and hub face to hub face is within 1/16”. Close enough. Now to put it back in and get the other one out.

I had a summer job working for our school. I was on some kind of stick welder. First experience with welding. I had to weld a bunch of 2"x2" plates with 1/2" hole on 24" piece of rebar. Funny thing was these were makeshift stakes to hold 6x6 wood beams around playground equipment:eek:. The rebar stuck up about 2 inches after it was staked into the beam.

Clearly a violation of safety even back in 89-90. But we did it...but i was starting to get good at welding by the end of it

The hard part is over. Need to let the gap sealer set, then time for a wash tomorrow. It looks a lot worse in the pictures than in person. :notsure:

Good from far, but far from good.

    Or....

    Done is better than perfect.

    Either one applies. :)

While we may not "know" each other in the sit down for a cup of tea kind of way we do generally visit here most every day, take an active interest in each others lives and talk about things ranging from funny to very serious.

Acquaintances are easy to come by - that sharp guy at the parts store, a neighbor you see out walking or a previous co-worker for example.

Good friends on the other hand are much more difficult to find - the folks you can call and say "I need help" and know they will be there -- even folks who can only be on a screen from miles away, you know they will try to help.

Respect, integrity, kindness & curiosity are the very foundation of the shop, one doesn't need to "bring a wrench" to be here.

I'm proud to call you guys my friends. :)
