Interested in getting my new to me 2014 tuned. Not great gas mileage so far. Might be good to have someone besides the dealer go over everything too.

It's still 3.50 a gallon here in Texas but yea much cheaper than Cali. Still like $70 for me to fill up.

Please report back, always wondered if a tune for our gen 2 would yield better mpg.

If toyota would have made the new tacoma a proper hybrid instead of a "performance" hyrbid I would have gladly sold my 2nd gen and bought one.

Pump is in a sump, in the bottom of tank, the pump suck up sludge since day 1.
If the pump can suck up fuel, it stays lubricated. If it dont suck up fuel the engine shuts the frack off.
I ran an elec fuel pump for months in water and sucking in lots of air for 6 months for a test back in the early 90s for ground water remediation.

I get 420 miles per tank for past 300k miles except when my ex manifold gasket let go and the extra O2 made it run rich

I would be happy with gas mileage that good. But my truck isn’t exactly stock anymore and it sees a lot of off-road, hauling and towing, so I stopped tracking mpg long ago lmao. I ride one of the motos if I want good mpg

It's the crap gas that's the problem,NOT the trucks.
    More money for garbage gas.

Concur. Stock 4.0L engine, no cam gears, but I have the OTT tune & it doesn't appear make an appreciable difference in MPG. Of course it's a bit hard to tell because I've been adding weight to the truck over a period of years..

What's helped me improve my mileage is monitoring my instantaneous and average MPG with the use of my Scangauge II. Some people use an Ultra Gauge. Either way it will help you see that 67 mph is not a very efficient speed for the Tacoma. Are you driving up and down hills?

My city and hwy drives are constantly going up and down the mountain slope. My city mpg is about 13 to 14 mpg. Highway is about 19 mpg. I average that to be very near your 16.2 mpg.

Any vehicle you ever own is going to have bad MPG because of this. You cannot beat the laws of physics. You either go slow and use less gas, or you don't.

    Errrm not so much --

If you get a Prius or any other tear-drop shape low vehicle that weighs under 3K lbs.. you're going to get 30+ mpg at 70 mph. You just wont get it in a heavy non-aero truck of any kind.

The point is that mileage goes down with speed for all vehicles. That same Prius could get 40-45 going 60.
