Norris was helped by very fortunate safety car timing and, we have just learned, that what the commentators called a bollard (its actually a cone or candle) put a hole in Verstappen's floor. Not taking anything away from Norris or McLaren because it was a great drive in a very quick car but there was a big helping of luck involved.

Checo wiping out Max would have been incredible, simultaneously pissing off Jos and jeopardizing Sergio's seat in the process

Crazy how verstappen couldn’t get the hard tires to work. I was hoping he would pit during the safety car and race his way to the front on mediums.

EDIT: Never mind the bollards here comes Verstappen

Sounds closer to: "Never mind the bollocks here comes the Sex Pistols"

McLaren was faster in race trim. That's the big story.

Yep, once Perez pitted Lando was the quickest guy out there, even when Max was on a push lap with two green sectors Lando was a 10th quicker, this was before Max hit the bollard.
Lando was also quick during qualy, just didn’t pull it all together as he should have.
This is hopefully really good news for the rest of the season.

    Race on!!

Surely that would just keep the water within the guard not allowing the treads of the tire to eject the water that it needs to?

I would think the goal would be to allow water ejection from the treads but shield the ejected water just from misting behind them.

Water still has to go somewhere though. But I am not an engineer

Yeh exactly. ejecting out the side and down would be the only points where the water mist can go. I think there will still be mist but I don't get how these would go on during a race. Would they red flag for the change to the water covers? Regular pit stop?

That was my concern? Are these like quick disconnects or some shit? Feel like it would take forever to put on, plus they're racers....they'll risk it on inters to save time
