I had my 2023 TRD OFF ROAD lifted. I liked the original wheels and didn’t want it to look funny, so I only had it lifted 2 1/2 inches. I believe it came to about $2300. After driving for a while, I heard a clicking and knew that something was in the tire. I looked at it and saw a screw in my tire. I went to a tire shop that does free repairs and while they were fixing it I was sitting in the waiting room staring at some 18 inch rims. Instead of getting a free tire repair, I left there $3000 later. Then I thought that I should have it lifted more so I took it back to the shop and had them put a 4 inch suspension lift on it. Icon suspension. When I went to pick it up, it looked higher, and when I got in, it felt higher. I thought I was going to have to get a hitch with more of a drop to keep my trailer rolling level, so I measured the hitch. It was at 19 inches which was exactly what it was before the last lift. I called the shop and was told that it was because they lifted the front and leveled the back and installed new suspension all the way around. I told him that it made no sense to me. I was told to take it back after 1500 miles for the reinspection and when I come back in he will show me what he means. Is it just me, or does this make no sense? I have since measured stock tacomas and their hitch is at 18 inches. So it seems to me that I’ve only raised 1 inch and the bigger wheels account for that.

Lift height is measured from the lca eccentric bolt to the lower knuckle for front suspension and the front leaf bolt to the axle for the rear suspension per the FSM. So thats one way to check i guess

Thanks. But shouldn’t the trailer hitch rise along with it? Or am I thinking wrong? I’ve never had any kind of modification done to my previous vehicles, so I’m new to this.

Not necessarily, its cantilevering if the level is more significant. Id say stock trucks even would have the hitch height even higher due to distance from fulcrum

take plenty of front and back pics of what they installed, scan the invoice too.
Also call the shop and ask for a list of components or a kit number.
Many here can help if you get some basic details.

When people measure lift they usually measure hub to fender. Measuring at the hitch brings the angle of the truck into play. A stock truck has a bit of rake (face down, back up) while many people who lift a truck prefer a "level" look. Some even do a squat where the headlights end up pointing up into the sky. The point being that the hitch is the furthest point out from the axels and will be most impacted by angle change. It wouldn't shock me a bit if you raised 3" in the front and 1.5" in the rear for a "level" lift. I know you said 4" but without pictures or a parts list I'm imaging it is 3" that is 4" as long as you measure from the balls. Anyway, I drew a picture to try and show the impact of leveling on a hitch... Also, welcome!

But really post pics, can you confirm these icon parts you paid for are on the truck? And where’s the other lift kit? Shouldn’t it be yours?

This sounds like a sad story about a bad auto shop in the works :anonymous:
