Really? You think nobody from the assembly line, to the sale to you, didn't notice? I guarantee the dealer knew about it and sold you the truck with full knowledge. They should have returned it to Toyota Corp when they cleaned it up for sale, or disclosed it and marked the vehicle down.

    Class act my ass.

Exactly. That's at least one case.

It should have been noticed coming out of the paint booth. Toyota needs to implement some lasers on the line to look for imperfections, gap tolerance levels, etc. I'm guessing based on this defect they don't. I know other manufacturers are using them now. Maybe they do that in Japan on the Lexus, Land Cruiser and 4Runner but just said fuck it for the vehicles made in dusty Mexico.

look over the panels at an angle with overhead lightning, not bright outside sunlight...
    artificial light is best.
    Makes it easier to see.
especially white, the white is blinding.

    good luck!

Let's be honest, it's not a nation known for cranking out quality products, more of a just get it done mindset.

Stand by for the pearl clutchers and white knights.

I wonder if this is part of the "growing pains" the Car Care Nut talks about in the first couple years of production for vehicle off their line.

He was referring more about new engine designs and the growing pains related to that. The painting process doesn't change much even when a new model comes out. They should have figured out the painting process many years ago.

You are discounting the Frontier because of the "heavier" steering feel? I had one and it isn't that much heavier, nothing that is going to give you arm pump.

That's pretty awful. I have to say that the OEM finish on my 2023 SR is excellent. My paint correction/PPF/ceramic shop owner is extremely picky like me, and we were both very impressed. I agree with the others that there's no way someone didn't notice that at some point prior to delivery. And probably multiple someones noticed.

I would not worry too much. Midnight black is metal flake and hides swirls a lot better than jet black. If the dealer detailer isn’t a complete idiot, it should be fine. Depending on when the vehicle was built, give it a few weeks then wash it carefully, followed by a good wax job.

Or you can pay a quality detailer to clean, correct, then seal the black with a good ceramic coat. Highly recommend doing that for black. I think it’s a waste on white.

Just a matter of preference. I hold driving comfort in high regard. High on my list of what I want in any vehicle is light steering, comfortable seats and smooth suspension. Obviously as far as a truck of any kind goes, the suspension would be be limited, but there can be a wide difference. I once owned a 2010 Silverado that on wavy concrete road would feel like you were in a paint mixer at Home Depot. But as far as the Frontier goes, even the car reviewers who always like heavy steering, were complaining about it. They were as perplexed as I was. Contrary to what the younger folks on the Frontier forum say ("it's because it's hydraulic steering") who never drove a Chrysler barge back in the late 1960s where you could turn the steering wheel with a feather, they don't realize hydraulic steering fluid can be metered to whatever feel the manufacturer wants, just like today's electric steering. So as I said, it's a mystery why Nissan hates comfort. I would never buy another Generic Motors vehicle again after being screwed too many times, but their corporate concept contained two features that I really liked, light steering and real tilt steering wheel. That's where you have a spring loaded little tab and when you pull it the steering wheel is also spring loaded to pop all the way up. The steering wheel itself pivots. I can't stand and it's another mystery why everyone has gone to the drop the entire steering column on your knees system where the steering wheel just drops down with the column, not tilt. Another giant leap backwards in comfort.

I spent 10 years working in dealerships as a tech and now work as an industrial electrician for GM. If there is one thing I know and that you should too (besides shit happens), it’s that you should have checked everything over before taking delivery. Instead of declining the truck. Ow you’re stuck dealing with the hassle of dealing with a service manager and getting corporates approval of repainting the truck. While I’m sure after being repainted it’ll be a huge improvement because I’ve probably never seen anything that bad, you also should know that the new paint job probably won’t be perfect either. Best of luck getting it all taken care of and hopefully once it is it is much better than that hideous monstrosity. I can’t even believe that rolled past a quality control inspection.

I don’t think Toyota is giving even a fraction of the scrutiny to their Mexican production facilities as BMW does.
