This. Take a clean vehicle inside and look it over under adequate lighting. Then, have them put it on a lift so you peruse the belly for anything odd while you are at it.

Got my truck home, no major paint defects that I could see however I had a couple of issues - missing JBL speaker and a crunchy driver's seat. Won't derail this thread any further.

Wishing you the best outcome on your truck.

Edit: Found the speaker wrapped in bubble wrap under the rear seats! So we are good there. Just the crunchy driver's seat.

That poor truck looks like it was painted outdoors next to the local Clam-Shack with the huge greasy exhaust fan on the roof, while they were cleaning out the patio bug-zapper at the end of the summer. (The big one that scares the dog.)

My Super White San Antonio 2014 has a flawless finish and fortunately has no peeling. I have been over the entire truck more than once detailing it, and with the exception of some minor rock ding/nicks on front-facing surfaces and a minor parking-lot scratch here and there, has no defects. I'm amazed they haven't offered you a solution yet.

If you read back a bit, you'll see the OP is not going to settle for a repaint.

Yep missed that. He should also know that it’s extremely unlikely and I mean extremely, for them to buy the truck back for paint issues. If he’s not gonna settle for a repaint then the only real option he’s gonna have is trading it in and hope his dealer works with him not to completely bend him over on the trade and/or on something new.

Agree it's very unlikely. He's pulling out all the stops and has corporate involved so it will be interesting to see how this turns out...

Is the orange peel not intentional from the factory?

I was expecting you to say you found bubble wrap under the seat which was causing the crunchy noise.

That would have been the best Friday lol.

No sadly it seems legit, the passenger seat is perfect, no noise. I played around with the settings and both bucket seats have the same features so it can't be lumbar or a setting. Driver's seat creaks and pops and the back of the chair feels like something is protruding from it. I didn't notice this on my test drivers so no idea why I am noticing now but it's super obvious at stoplights, not so much while moving.

The speaker is super heavy and expensive-feeling, it's not like a cheap toy.

Perhaps not intentional, but totally unacceptable regardless. Orange-peel paint job problems were a common issue and were solved in the '80's. These are $40 to 50 thousand+ dollar trucks we're discussing here. I haven't seen one on any vehicle: cheap or expensive, in forty-five years. The dealer should have addressed this coming off the carrier that delivered it.

Baja, good to know. I’ve had 2 Tacomas (22 and 23) out of Guanajuato and both have had defect free paint jobs. I’ve worked in the Toyota/Lexus plant paint shops for over 20 years and I can say that the defects on your Tacoma never should have made it out of the paint shop. Typically if there’s a lot of dirts and craters after it goes through the booth to get painted the defects get repaired and it gets recoated.

I am wondering if this is common place with white tacos if you look close enough.

I try not to look too closely at my white 2021, but when I do, there's plenty of imperfections.
