Hi, I’m working on my 2002 Toyota Tacoma with a new used Tacoma engine in it. I had code p0302, p0440, and p0446. Engine vibrates a lot at idle and squeaking noise comes from engine at idle. I replaced all my spark plugs and noticed one of the cylinders the spark plug was really burnt out and replaced the coil pack in that cylinder. Which was cylinder 2. After that I rechecked the codes and started engine again and cleared the codes to see which ones would come up. Code p0302 was still there and a new code p0171 showed up. The other 2 codes (p0440 and p0446 are evap codes and come back after a couple miles being driven). Any help or advice on how to fix codes p0302 and p0171 would be really appreciated. Also, how I can fix the vibration at idle.

I attached a picture of the engine below, but video of it I am not able to attach. Please help.

IIRC P0302 is a misfire code for cylinder 2. That is likely your vibration cause. Have you checked compression?

Is this engine a used, but new-to-you (and this truck) engine? If it's got low compression or some other big issues causing this misfire I'd be exploring all of your options when it comes to any warranty a seller may have provided. Often times junkyard motors have 90-day warranties.

P0171 after you did spark plugs probably means you left a hose loose or you made a vacuum leak. P0302 is your rough idle. If spark plugs and a new coil pack didn;t fix it your down to injector or compression barring anything weird like an electrical issue.

Yeh I diagnosed some more and have to replace fuel injector 2 and I think that might fix it. Having trouble getting off the fuel rail tho and the injectors. Hopefully it fixes it.

Put a piece of tape on your coolant level and monitor that. Could potentially be the head gasket starting to go. Would recommend doing a compression test soon.

I fixed the codes by adding a new fuel injector and now it doesn’t have a big rough idle like before anymore and replaced the pcv valve. Just need to figure out how to fix codes P0440 and p0446 have had these codes for awhile and don’t know how to fix them.
