Just finished installing icon aal with overload spring left in. While I was cutting the bracket, didn’t notice it touching the cable and got too hot so some of the rubber got melted. Taped some electrical tape around it for now. Should I be worried about this and replace it?

Mine got cut from rubbing against the metal bracket on the leaf spring. Water got in there and it would freeze when the temp got down low in winter. Kinda annoying dragging your left rear wheel down the street in 4WD trying to go to work. I found it would release if I grabbed the cable and pulled/flexed it around.

Took me a while to find a new cable too, apparently DCLB cables are getting rare..

You didn’t get into the inner layer……you will be ok. Would suspect you will have issues a few years down the road. Key point is to keep it sealed, keep water out

Thanks for the responses, I’ll probably just replace the electrical tape with silicone tape instead. Just glad I don’t need to replace the cable.

^Silicone tape doesn't stick to anything. Goop it up with liquid electrical tape, then put plastic split loom over it.

You could measure the OD of the cable where it's undamaged, find a black hose with a slightly larger ID, slide it over, clamp the ends,,, and probably never have to worry about it again. Heck it might not ever give you issues the way it is,, as @faawrenchbndr mentioned, it's the main thing is to keep dirt and moisture out.

It really doesn't look like you breached any boundaries. If it were mine, I wouldn't give it another thought.

PS: you might want to stop trying to set your truck on fire! :)
