Pics of 265/70/17 BFG km2's or Duratracs..

I am killing myself between getting the km2's (which will look better, yet be heavier and less mpg) or the duratacs, which I don't think will look as good.


Whichever ones I get will be on 17" tundra/sequoia limited wheels.

What are they going to be used for?

If it's highway/city I'd go with the Duratracs.

I liked the look and more 'general purpose' usage of the Duratracs, but I wanted to start wheeling harder and I was told the Duratracs have fairly thin sidewalls. I want to avoid a blowout on the trail as best I can, so I went with the KM2s.

 

Mostly highway but I really like the look of the km and heard they have good treadlife on light trucks like tacomas..

 

265/70/17 duratracs love them! Km2 will not perform in the snow as well as duratracs. I was torn between the 2 but due to weight (gas mileage) and driving in snow I chose duratracs. If you get duratracs you can get a 100 rebate for joining treadlightly.org

 

those look great! good choice, too late though I already told my local tire shop to get me Nitto Trail Grapplers. heavy, but they should have good tread wear and have good road manners. Thanks for the pic, good lookin truck!

How much did those rims cost?!?!?!

 

The wheels I found on ebay for $440 plus shipping but talked him down to 400 including shipping! they are in like new shape and are the limited darker gray color. The centercaps I got for wholesale price at my dealer for $46 each down from the $100 each which is retail price. So the wheels cost me total with centercaps around 600 dollars. The tires and alignment and mount and balance and everything was $1200 dollars. The old man emu 883's and shocks were $590. And the rear 1" blocks that I havent put on yet I am buying from a friend for 40 bucks. So I have about $2,430 in it so far, time to rest for awhile, im running out of money haha.

my old 16" trd off road package alloys are for sale now.. idk how much yet..maybe $450

Twiostaco looks amazing!!! Did you have to do the lift to make wheels and tires fit?

 

What kind of effect are you guys seeing on the mpg's? The duratracs look great

 

my mpg got hit harder than expected..its because my grapplers are heavy. 61lbs each. I went from 20mpg to 17/18ish. if I had done duratracs I assume it wouldnt have been that much of a drop

 

Thanks! No lift required, they will hit your front mudflaps most likely but mine are removed. with this size of duratracs you can get them in load range "C" wich makes a pretty big weight difference. I didn't really notice a change in mpg. My tires weigh 44lbs each.

Thanks. I've been looking at tires for a while but its kind of overwhelming. so many different sizes and makes and models. I've always been a fan of bfg all terrains, but now im kind of thinking about something more aggressive, and I dont know if I should go with 285, 275, or go for pizza cutters at 255.

 

I was REALLLY overwhelmed during the whole tire buying process. I understand. I finally came to the conclusion that if I went with an all terrain tire that I wouldn't be happy with the looks. So i just had to pull the trigger and get what I thought would look good and wear decent. I recommend the Trail Grapplers. They wander a little bit on the highway but its not that bad and they are pretty quiet for a Mud terrain tire. If you don't go with that go with a duratrac i guess. I just didn't go with them because I am not fond of the triangular side tread and I am picky.


As far a 275 tires, yes they are an option, however they don't make many tires in a 275 size as you probably know. I heard good year MTR's wear quickly and are loud and I hear bfg all terrains will hold rocks and throw them all over your paint. I had a set back in 2003 on a 4runner and I do recall them throwing rocks on the paint.

I know your pain, here is what I finally concluded as far as narrowing down options:

-285 in more of an all terrain tire, I was thinking that the bigger look would make the all terrain part and non aggressive tread less noticeable.

-275 just didn't like anything that was available in that size

-265 If I'm going to go "smaller" I wanted aggressiveness and to get a mud terrain tread to help take away from the "small" look. I'm saying 'small' because they aren't really small but they are in comparison to a 285.

So there I was pulling hair..what do I do. I was in your boat that you are in right now. So I finally just had to do it and make a decision. I knew I wouldn't be happy with an A/T tire. The M/T tread really makes a truck look better I'm my opinion. I was then between the 265/70/17 bfg km2 and the grappler. So I just tired the grappler because the description of them said they were designed with road manners in mind. I did it and I'm happy and the annoying tire stress is over.

 

and also....in my opinion the 255's are just too skinny. they might look good like on a Jeep Cherokee or something, but not on a taco
