Is there an actually good affordable biscuit joiner that someone has experience with? I want something I don't have to fiddle with that is very accurate out of the box.

Why would anyone talk you out of one of the best woodworking tools ever invented?

Biscuit jointers are only kinda accurate in one dimension.
And that's only if they are make with buttermilk. :)

My fears are coming to fruition. And I would just by a new one. What size of cutter do you use the most?

Well... I bought the systainer full of dominos, I haven't ever used the smallest ones, I've used the largest a few times but the middle sized one gets the most use for me. I think that's the 6mm. Basically I use whatever is 1/3rd the thickness of the wood I'm using. 3/4" hardwood needs the 6mm domino

I also bought the Systainer with dominos and cutters. I have used all the sizes, but mostly the 5mm and 6mm. However I did use the larger 8, 10, and even the smaller 4mm when I built my patio chairs.

I will eventually, but I don't really do much more than hobbyist woodworking, it'll take time... If I was a production woodworker, damn would I ever go through dominos!

Biscuit joiners and domino joiners are 2 entirely different tools and each has their own uses. I have a Porter Cable biscuit joiner that is probably the best of them made. I haven't made the plunge to a domino yet but may someday. But the price is what has kept me away from it. Hoping when the patent runs out other manufacturers will build more affordable machines for the hobbiest.

Is your Porter Cable the 557?

Thats ok, based on my research I'm pretty sure that's what you have. I'm still on the fence due to the price of admission on the domino.

Ok I googled it, yes it's the 557.
Keep in .ind that biscuit joiners add nothing to the strength of a joint, it's mostly just an alignment tool. Helps to keep things in place during a glue up, or when attaching face frames to cabinets, etc.
