If anyone opting to buy that refrigerated dryer from HF for CNC stuff, get yourself an extension cord and just chop it up

    20240511_160310.jpg

The dryer doesn't come with one, and you get a longer, thicker gauge extension cord versus buying an open ended power cord

Im having some issues welding this weekend. The welding doesnt sound right it sounds kind of spotty and the welds arent sitting down in the parent materials no matter the settings.

    I have tried

    voltage up/down
    wire speed
    gas flow
    welding 1/4 and 1/8
    changed the contact tip
    cleaned everything

This is with a new bottle of gas

Any ideas? I was screwing around with scratch start tig the other day so I hope I didnt screw anything up.

The other day when it was working right for reference

Are your leads correct? They should be since there is some penetration from what it looks like.

DC TIG runs straight polarity, so you'd swap your leads from MIG, and back over when you're done with TIG.

I don't see anything wrong other than needing to use proper technique and more hood time?

Did it just start when you swapped the bottle of gas?

Bad bottle of gas maybe? Can you take it back and have them check it/swap it?

    Bad gas is very unlikely

It's not to say anything about your experience or whatever, but typically it's easy to lay a good bead in the right conditions. Then suddenly you're in a different setting, or altogether just running a different bead type, and it comes out bad.

Sometimes it just comes down to experience with proper technique.

You’re all good, I was just expressing frustration with what’s goin on here. I think I am just going to do all the tube fitting up and save the welding for another day

That will definitely benefit you most; you'll have a clear head about each task

I've got to take care of the brakes on my GX today

Then I've got that Tacoma coming in so I can bolt on the bumper, and get some measurements on finishing up the wings and swingout portion

Got the truck in earlier and the bumper fitment is on point so far

    20240512_122119.jpg

    20240512_123023.jpg

Got some DOM cut as well, and removed the black pipe I had used as a placeholder

    20240512_122928.jpg

Buddy got some pics of me lol here's the first visit when I gathered measurements for everything

    IMG_8579.jpg

Followed by the second visit earlier today

    IMG_9212.jpg

Back on the bench and back to working up the wings on CAD. The swingout will go on the right side of the bumper and it will carry a spare tire along with a small fold out table on the inside.

it looks to me like you're running the welder 'reversed', where the grounding clamp goes to the positive, and the gun loop is attached to the negative. it's how it should be set up for flux core, but opposite for mig. i did the same thing when i switched over from flux core to mig, and couldn't for the life of me figure out why my beads were standing up so high and not laying right.

Trying to reverse what a much younger me did. I put new holes in the frame of my truck to make a rear bumper work with a (now removed) body lift. I would like to replace the bumper with a different style and use the stock mounting locations. How would you guys go about fixing this? Will welding a piece of flat stock to the back side of the frame provide enough reinforcement?

A picture backing up a bit to show the setup in its entirety would really help

Like I mentioned the other day, it sounds like 1 of 2 things -

Either your leads are switched, or your wirespeed is way off in relation to voltage and the metal thickness

I normally run a good 50-100ipm more than suggested
