I actually have a jeep now. Imagine that.
I got the d40 over the d40x. My dad has had the d80, two d50's, and a d300. The image sensor in the d80 and d40x are the same and are crap IMO. I don't know much about the d60 but if its the same image sensor as the d40x and d80 i'd avoid.

so whats wrong with the image sensor in the D80?

Besides it has been replaced w/ the D90.

    The D60 is the D40x w/ a few upgrades. It's a Nikon so it'll be good.

BTW I have had my D80 for a yr and have not had any problems with it and still love it.

I have been shooting a D70 ever since it came out and could not be happier...unfortunately they don't make that one any more but depending on your budget as to how much camera you can afford. My Dad had a D40 that was great, got stolen so he got himself another and couldnt be happier. I am a Nikon guy so I cannot say much about the competition out there. Good luck

Cant go wrong with Canon or Nikon. Go to a store and hold both in the same price range you want to spend. Buy whichever feels better in your hands. If you don't enjoy holding your camera, you wont want to use it.

I too have shot the D70 since it came out, and have been a Nikon guy forever. The D-60 is an in-between camera, not quite a prosumer, but a little more than a basic DSLR. I find the body too small for my hands. If you are casually shooting than fine, if you are more advanced I would go to the D300 and up.

I guess I should have specified what I use mine for. The d80 and d40x are great for portraiture but terrible in high zoom applications (500 prime, like a $10k lens)

If your going with a $10K lens then I have no idea why you would go for anything less than a D700.

+1. I shoot Nikon, D80 and D40x, because I have been shooting Nikon since the early 1980s.

I shoot a d40 w/ a 18-200 lens. My father has a 500 prime on his d300 because 1) d700 wasn't out when he got his stuff and 2) only big difference on d700 is that its fx.

Nikon have simplified the way that the Shutter-speed, Aperture and Manual modes are implemented on the D60. Instead of having two dials as on the D80, one just below the shutter button on the top of the handgrip which changes the shutter speed, and the Main Command dial on the rear of the camera which changes the aperture, the Nikon D60 only has the Main Command Dial on the rear.

There should be a function on the dial that allows you to change the shutter speed and automatically adjusts the aperture.

Maybe if there's an S mode?
