I was trailering a project Mustang to the greater metropolitan area outside of Boston MA about 10 yrs ago and had to cross the George Washington Bridge going across the Hudson River in NYC. (I know, I know, pi$$ poor planning on my part) I digress.

The George Washington Bridge is arguably the worst bridge in the USA. The potholes are boulder-sized. The lanes are too narrow. Signage is practically non existent. Traffic is backed up 24/7. Drivers are miserably angry at all times and there is almost always an accident blocking traffic. Seriously, this bridge is the gold star example of New York. It takes in hundreds of thousands of dollars per day, and it just SUCKS.

Even back then, like in 2014, the f**king toll was way over $20. I was like WTF! I'm in an F-150 towing a single axle trailer. The toll-taker, in less than 2 seconds, started shouting at me to PAY THE GODDAMN TOLL OR I'LL HAVE YOU ARRESTED FOR BLOCKING TRAFFIC.

    Whatever, you psychopath.

LOOK IT UP - THE CURRENT TOLL - ONE WAY - EASTBOUND - FOR A 3/8 MILE RIVER CROSSING ON THE SHITTIEST UNIMPROVED BRIDGE IMAGINABLE - IS FIFTEEN BUCKS.

That, I give you, is the Democrap-tic State of New York and it has only gotten worse since 2014.

True - and lots of local Deputy Fife’s who like to sit on overpasses and take pretty pictures.

Uuuuuh, yeah, OK. Nothing like an out-of-state driver flying by at 80-90 mph with a U-Hual trailer that puts a bigger smile on trooper’s face.

Personally, I like the adaptive cruise control and a big semi to help boost my mpg. Have a safe trip. :hattip:

On my trip from Maryland to Montana and back, I was trying to outrun a nasty thunderstorm in South Dakota. What I can only assume was an actual wind shear almost blew us off the road at one point. I took this photo with the storm looming in the background when we made a quick pit stop.

Rookie mistake. Never take the GWB if you can avoid it. When my son lived in New Jersey, we'd take the Mass 'pike out to Sturbridge then I-84 to I-91 and then take the Merritt. The last road isn't an option if you're towing a trailer, but you could take I-91 to I-95 to I-287 and take the then Tappenzee Bridge. Well, reverse that if you're coming up from MD. As long as it's a non commercial trailer you could use the Garden State Parkway as well.

Anything is better than going through NYC and the GWB. The other thing that at least used to happen was that the police would randomly stop and search any enclosed trucks.

Of course when we were making that trip I was able to avoid the I-91/I-95 interchange because I had my Tundra and could use the Merritt. That interchange was like the Big Dig of CT, it just never seemed to end.

My route to the south now swings way further west to avoid NJ entirely and only travel upstate NY, not through the city. Traveling with firearms has it's own challenges.

It would be if you were lugging that trailer behind you. Otherwise, depending on what you were driving you might have been able to take the Merritt. Which has some rather low bridges on it and a tunnel that prohibits trucks.
