The financials are readily available. Fiscal year just ended. Just gotta shake my head of the cult of personality. Don't trust any damn youtubers. Their job is to get eyeballs. Don't understand why people don't get it. Signing off. Have a nice night!

The "debt" Toyota is carrying is consumer debt - meaning people owe Toyota money. That's like saying i have a lot of debt because I have four rental properties. Unless a lot of people default on their loans, Toyota is making money off of that debt.

Says "bread and butter" TRD OR is over 50K and "top of the line" ZR2 at 51K. An OR with the $4,600 pkg is $49,975 vs a ZR2 with safety and tech packages at $50,185. That's pretty close. Both have heated cloth seats and comparable suspension packages. The ZR2 has more hp but the Tacoma gets better mpg. Says ZR2 competes with way too expensive TRD Pro, but ZR2 isn't top of the line, Bison is, and the Pro is competitively priced with that. Will agree that a Ranger Raptor is a good value but it is still short on a lot of features the Pro offers. Doom and gloom click bait.

As a Toyota guy, saying the trd off road is comparable to a zr2 isn’t accurate. Packaging, at least here in Canada, on Tacomas is pretty lame. Want leather seats? Well you gotta spend 10-11k more and get the premium package. In a zr2, well for $1,100 you get leather with ventilation and a bunch of other features. The multimatic shocks are better than standard offer trd off road Bilstein. Bigger, better off road tires, front locker etc etc.

My off road premium Tacoma was $50,440 new in 2022. Now it’s over $61,000 here. That’s absolutely nuts and I won’t be buying one. The value isn’t there for me.

Who's going to buy this Tacoma at this price AND then actually admit they paid this much?

Only one data point - a C/D comparison test - has the OR besting the Desert Boss (same as Bison but w/33s).

They liked the Colorado's leather material but not the seats themselves or anything else in the interior vs the Tacoma.

Tacoma has higher payload and tows more, better on road handling, better braking, did just as good off road (actually had more articulation with SDM), better mpg and ...

"the TRD Off-Road matched the ZR2 to 60 mph (6.8 seconds), in the quarter-mile (15.2 seconds), from 5 to 60 mph (8.1 seconds), and from 30 to 50 mph (3.9 seconds). Moreover, its quarter-mile trap speed was 92 mph versus the ZR2's 89 mph, and its 4.7-second 50-to-70-mph passing time was seven-tenths quicker."

Put 33’s on the Tacoma and see what the numbers say.

the zr2 and pro use to be close in price, which would lean me pro. But no way an off road is as well equipped as a zr2. I only own Toyotas btw but it is what it is.

I'm sure the slightly larger tires and the bigger bumpers/light bars/skid plates hurt the Desert Boss performance. A lighter ZR2 (what we're actually comparing) would have had closer/equal numbers - which was my point - they're comparable trims.

Multimatic DSSV sounds really high tech, doesn't mean it works great. There's a lot more to dialing in a suspension than the shocks. Rear coils and the DSM help the Tacoma overcome it's more pedestrian Bilsteins.

How is the ZR2 better equipped?

Some rich yuppy will pay it. That’s what they are counting on. Overlanding is a high end niche right now.

We have guys here where I live who drive around in fully built and geared up rigs like those guys who drive across the world for a living.

Building a similar Truck from something like an SR5 4x4 will cost you the same or more money. “Overlanders” are out there dumping upwards of 50-60k just on off-road improvements/enhancements. Some of those rigs cost upward of $150k before it’s said and done, just so they can go camping and run an electric blanket and a string of led lights around the campfire.

    It’s insane.

I feel ya. I am in line for a pro. I’m not paying anymore than $63,400. Dealer said he could make it happen but I would have to be patient. They are going to receive them loaded out but eventually they will send the one I want or they will slash the price down on one with options if they can’t move it.

The nice thing about the Pro and TH is that since they come with (some type) of rock rails and custom exhaust tip, the distributors can't add those items.
