Beats hand filing them! Just make sure you don’t overheat the blade. Use fast motions with the grinder.

i do know that. dont get it cooked and brittle. i was going to use 80 grit sand paper on a variable speed angle grinder on low. then gently cool with a wet towel.

I've never used sandpaper. I suppose it'd work for a time or two.?
You should be able to find an actual grinding wheel for your angle grinder.
    Your grass will thank you.

If the tips of your grass blades are turning brown or yellow and look more ripped than cut, a lot of times it's from a dull blade.

Those are what I use on my finishing mower.

I usually use my HF grinder with a grinding disc. You could probably use a flap disc as well. I might even try that out myself next time. In my mind I think it would work out great.

I use an angle grinder with a flap disk to sharpen blades all the time. It only takes a few minutes to figure out the angle and maintain it while sharpening.

I mean yes and no. The don't require extra HP if you stay on top of things and not let the grass get to long. Or try to cut wet grass. I guess one should point out that mulching blades really require a kit that includes something to cover the discharge chute.

After sharpening the blade, find a nail on the wall and hang the blade on it.
If it's balanced it will rest horizontally.

Whatever side it may fall to needs more taken off.
Uneven blades make the deck shake.

i use an angle grinder every day at work so i figured anything would be an improvement. if it was a nicer mower (or lawn) i would buy a better blade. now with my little munching machine horse my mow duty is cut by 2/3. awesome!

I had a flex wing unit at my last job I found out could be fitted with a mulching kit, but the kit supplied didn't include gator blades. So I went to the Kubota dealer I used and we found some that matched the bolt hole and cut them down to the right length. It worked great. I could have the guy mowing roughs go out first thing in the morning with a heavy dew and not leave a clipping. After the unit had so many hours on it it could not be daily used we would use it for leaf disposal in the fall. We had two holes the were heavily wooded. We would blow the leaves off to the side into a huge pile, the take the flex wing through it. When the tractor came out the other side it would look like it was pulling a pile of leaves behind it, but they would fall off and we would go over them again and again until that huge pile of leafs would disappear, and I mean disappear. It would grind them out of existence. It was really impressive.

I usually hold a screwdriver in my hand and slide the blade on it to see if it holds level for balance. It’s usually close enough.

When I do sharpen my blades.... Which is rarely... This is how I do it.

Most of the time they have such huge chunks out of them that they go in the scrap steel pile & put another set on.

Got the new carb installed. Holy cow! What a difference!

This unit came from the factory with 19 HP engine. I tossed on a 26 HP. It is a mulching monster!

The non orange oil filter should be good for a half a horse.
