It was a good solution and very well thought out.. but if you're anything like me, just hearing anything about electronics makes me cringe so I was talking more plug-n-play kits for sale somewhere. Otherwise, I'm fine with my ABS and trac control being off, the oversized tires have enough for me to go 70mph on the highway in a downpour

Just as a funny told-ya-so, he did say his truck was a manual in his last paragraph of his 1st post :Da

Probably because only around 20 people have actually done this lol plus the first post describes it pretty well. What other pics do you want? 20210929_162014.jpg 20220710_164135.jpg

Can you edit the original post?
I had an issue staying in Hi (dual sticks) but getting this detent spring from yotamasters fixed everything. I think I just needed to ream out more on the transmission but didn't want to break through the aluminum housing. Thanks

I know for my twin sticks, my Transmission shifter touches my Hi/N/Lo shifter when I go in Reverse but there's enough play that it's not hurting anything. It also depends on how intricate you want to make your bends for the shifters. I'm sure I could've bent it a little more but it works and looks good so I'm not concerned about it

Please note pen line on right shaft 2/4WD shaft. Is nothing stopping me from grinding almost right back to the pen line? Page 1 says grind an 1/8th off but I am not seeing why I can’t take a whole lot more off. I’ve pushed and pulled and I personally can’t see why not.

@Dkarr13 @bravinci or others who may know. Thanks in advance

If you're 100% sure that it is for sure in gear, I don't see why you couldn't cut it back that far... It seems odd that there's that big of a difference between our transfer cases though...

I'm about to take this on. Just curious how much you ended up taking off of the shift rails? My 2wd/4wd shift rail (the right one in your picture) looks similar length (~22mm out) when toggled back and fourth

Did you ever get the 3d printed template figured out?

Cut as much as possible to be flush with the seal in the retracted state, just don't let them go past the o-ring. You'll still need to cut inside the bell housing tho

Yes, the TW fam came through and printed me a template. Thanks again for the file!

Can they be flush with the seal or should I leave a couple mm proud so they don't go past the seals if someone were to really jam them in place? Is that even a consideration?

Then I've gotta sort out my order of operations as I need to:
-Install a 6spd manual input shaft and housing.
    - trim/grind down shift rods
-determine finished length of shift rods (my stock length is 22mm at fully extended)
-trim template down to that length (24mm right now)
-clearance the RC62 tranny with the altered template

Just waiting on some parts from Toyota to freshen up the seals on the t-case and away I go.

No you can go flush. Once you open up the FJ case, you'll see the shift rods are mechanically stopped from being slammed in any further. But there's really no order tbh. It's just
    -swap out input shaft/gear ring
-reassemble FJ case with gasket maker (really slather it on, mine after 2 years is starting to leak a tiny bit)
    -grind down Shift rods
-grind down clearance in tranny billet
-reinstall case with tranny, install shift levers to ensure you cut out enough clearance
-install higher spring tension springs to case

You don't really need to worry about numbers, from what I've seen. Some people barely cut into the tranny billet although I had to trim a ton; I thought I was gonna break through. Its just one of those things where manufacturers cant get everything exactly perfect. But I also have the 6spd so I just bent the shift levers to come up through the gear shifter boot. Again, make sure to use a good gasket maker

I'm slowly moving along. I got the input shaft swapped, shift rails ground down, shift rail clearanced for twin sticks, case sealed and reassembled and will bite the bullet on clearancing the tranny today or tomorrow.

Just curious on who all makes higher spring tension shift rail springs and the cheapest source? I see LCE's got some but they're killing me on shipping ($20 for shipping on two tiny springs!)

Yeah YotaMasters. Can't vouch for any others but these have been on the truck for 2 years now and no issues

I'm sorry I put those springs in 3 years ago, I can't remember what they looked like without ripping them back out. But yes I ordered the springs from this site and they only have one listed. Do you want to reach out to them and ask? Slap them in to see if they work? Or want me to try to see what they look like? I have a full-time job so I'm not sure when I can get underneath the truck

Guy on a Facebook group page posted the build process on his eco crawler and the electric transfer cases have the stiffer Detent springs. I used the springs from my old case for the assembly. I’ll see how it goes before proceeding.
