I think the shape of the side trim is from 1960 (oops, EDIT 1959), the last year of that Task Force design. Either way, other than the white license plates, the first photo looks like it could have been taken in the 1960’s. I bet a lot of 2wd Chevy pickups explored DV back in the National Monument days. Nice photo’s, nice rescue!

You did exactly what your supposed to do during early season hikes. Suffer. The more suffering the better. Then by mid-season you get to crush instead of suffer. Late season you just become unstoppable. Then it snows and you get fatter, older and un-fitter. Which leads to next seasons suffering. It's an endless loop. lol

This body style was used in both 58 & 59, the 59 has a larger hood emblem.

You could see why it was done but that doesn't excuse it. Nor does it excuse driving off road in the first place.

Sort of. At least for me personally, if I were winching off something (anything, not just a historical structure like that), and I saw it start to move/tip/etc., I wouldn't be winching any further; I'd be looking for another solution/anchor point/etc.

Unfortunately, this is today's entitlement mentality though, where "I'm special, so I should do whatever I want." I had someone send me a video they took in SV over the Salt Tram (and lake) that I just had to "check out." Turns out it was them flying their drone over the salt lake.

My reply: Wow. A bit of a bummer with the drone though, since those aren’t allowed in National Parks...

Their response: Hundreds of drone vids of DVNP on YouTube, but I hear ya.

I didn't reply at that point (and probably won't ever reply to this guy again), but I thought... Seriously? It's one thing if I'm informing you of something you should know but don't, but you knew you weren't supposed to do it, and decided to do it b/c there were other videos on YT? Lame. That's the kind of entitlement that leads to crap like this winching situation.

...Although, now I'm thinking that I could send in this video that this guy took, or have him reach out to the NPS, because I don't know when he filmed it, but I can see the furthest tower standing in it...

It was done to avoid getting caught driving off road most likely. I wonder how high on the tram tower they attached the winch line.

Like I said, it doesn't excuse driving offroad in the first place. But my guess is whomever it was a) didn't know what they were doing and didn't give either its historic nature or two shits a second thought. And b) Never saw it start to fall.
