I would say if you found something you like that much and you are making a reasonable financial choice, go for it. No reason to get another Toyota just to “get another Toyota”. Might as well spend your money on something you really want.

I traded in my third gen and I couldn’t be happier. IMO, everything about the 4th gen is better. We will see how they hold up but I feel toyota wouldn’t risk their reputation if they didn’t feel it was a solid and reliable truck.

Why do people do this? This is even not remotely true.

I'm in the same boat. Had a 2006 Taco I traded at 95K miles for my 2013 TRD OR DCSB 4X4. It's my daily driver with short commute, so only 69K miles, but itching for something newer and more modern feeling. Not feeling inspired by the 2024 4th gen design and prices. Ford dealers are marking up Ranger Raptors $15K to ~$80K OTD. Toyota dealer said expect $5K markup on the TRD Pro so also ~$80K OTD. Sorry but no mid-size PU is worth $80K. Easily add a few bucks and get a barely used CPO GLE53 AMG Coupe at that point.

The AT4X is $62K OTD ... design and on-paper options considered, I heavily favor the AT4X over 2024 TRD OR and having to go the route of immediately replacing suspension, rims and tires. Toyota could learn from the AT4X and Tremor and make a mid-package TRD OR+ or TRD Pro "Lite" with lift, 33s, etc.

Also not sure how I feel about the new 4Runner, that rear window is ugly as hell and looked outdated like an afterthought, NOT retro cool. Maybe it will be different in person? So maybe I'll just sit and wait to see if the 2024 Tacoma grows on me, while waiting for the 4Runner, Landcruiser and GX550 to hit the lots.

I see a hypercriticism of Toyota and the new Tacoma. and lots of discussion of merits of the such and such X alternative. Don't know why one lame comment get your brain cells firing all of a sudden. Also, see the cockroaches coming out to dog pile on "Toyota fanboys" and being such poor victims of the Toyota patriarchy. There are accounts here that is their only contribution. So sad. But, hey I got my observation out of the way. Worth as much as anyone else's.

For me it came down to wants vs needs vs must haves. I really like the AT4 but the Tacoma checked more boxes.

I’m no mathematician, but it looks like each column has 5 green boxes. Or does the red box break the tie, presumably?

Tacoma has 7 greens but they are not all one for one. For example what are your must haves? Some of mine are ventilated seats, power sliding windows, and homelink.

I'd suggest hanging onto your 2008 and helping your son find a used gen2 until more is known about both of these new trucks. The 2024 is waaaay overpriced IMO and the GMC is, well, a GMC.

Everything I read about the 2024 Tacoma on this forum makes me like my gen2 more.

Problem with warrantees is they have to be honored by stealer ships. Buying 3 years old those issues are either already dealt with or a known quantity and you avoid the greatest period of depreciation so even if there is an issue it’s probably more than covered by the savings.

Bought this … 2015 44k miles one owner, no rust
Half the price of a new 4th gen, (25k range) this truck will probably outlast a ton of 4th gen’s ;) i too was originally planning for a 4th gen until the laughable price became a reality

The thing about a warranty is it shouldn’t be a hassle. So if Toyota is always giving you a hassle and multiple trips back to get something fixed then your warranty costs you time. I found a really good dealership service center and now I only buy from them and they always give me great service. I’ve bought two vehicles from there after having terrible luck at Ford and Toyota dealerships.

My 2006 Colorado was a piece of crap, bought it new. Drove it daily to a desk job only. Needed all the U joints at 30K, replaced 4 cam solenoids, had a couple of other gremlins. Cylinder head failed at 70K, a known defect that GM put me through hell with and I still wound up with a $2000 bill. Never again will a GM sit in my driveway as a daily.

Or, as my case above, the dealers can refuse to do it unless paid in full up front..or take it and then leave you without a vehicle while they fix their screwup, and then give you a bill upon pickup OR ELSE/

It's not supposed to be of course but....and the main office basically told me to fuck off too.

I know it is just marketing, but I definitely like the views of the GMC Sierra in recent commercials. To me, the front end is more attractive than the Chevrolet variant, and while it is full sized, the views make it look more compact. I do not really care about putting a wind sail in the bed with the multi-function tail gate, but was always amused by the prior ads with the swimming cat. Your version looks great. I know it will not fit in my garage, which is a key purchasing decision for me!

I do agree with the Sierra styling. To me it's one of the best looking trucks on the road. I also loved the color combination of blue with dark brown interior. Mine won't fit in my garage either so we will see how the paint holds up over time out in the elements.

I'm hoping for 2025 GMC/Chevrolet half tons follow the HD route. You can get a RC HD with the nice Google infotainment and digital dash in the SLE model. The 2024 half ton still is raiding the parts bin from 2019-2021 with the old style on the RC.

Would love a RCSB 4x4 for $34,000 which you can find around here with discounts.
