I'm still in highschool and love to offroad but there's only so much that i can do with my prerunner  . So I've decided that I'm gonna spend about 4 grand and buy myself an offroading vehicle that I won't have to worry about denting, pinstriping, etc. Ideas on what type of vehicle? I was looking at old toyota pickups but they seem to hold their value to well!

old 4 runner, jeep, sammy, or older taco.... depends on what you want to do, pretty much I can wheel any vehicle on fire roads and stuff but on the rocks out here you want solid front axle, short wheelbase, and lightweight.......

    A few bolts are different.
Keep in mind any older off road vehicle you get for 4K will require lots more investment over time for upkeep.

I picked up a 1985 Toyota Pickup 4x4 with a 22R for $1k. Needed a new carburetor to get the engine running, and I've spent about $1k in extra stuff (armor, new brakes and what not)

You can find used ones for less than 4K. I know a couple folks who got them for 1500 and 2K respectivley.

If you're patient enough you can find anything cheap.

My ARB? 6 months old for $600. My BFGs? 75% tread. $600.

Condition rules over brand when your budget is that small.

Keep your eyes open for everything that comes on the market, and you'll start to get a feel for how good a condition everything is in, and how much work most of them will need. Then jump on the first one you find that's in *really good condition* for the price - jeep, toyota, samurai, or tonka for that matter.

Sometimes bad condition can also = big score! We have an 86 Toy with a bad tranny (5th gear is out), got it for $1600, and just got a 3RZ, tranny, and T-case for 500 bucks. for about 2500 bucks, its gonna run better than stock. :)

Sammy or older runner or pick up would be awesome. I've actually thought about doing this too but I want to finish some more basic stuff on my truck first
