My toyota tacoma 2006 prerunner was in a crash. It was towed and the battery died. I charged the battery and the truck started, but the battery was bad so I has to get a new one.

I tried starting the truck with the new battery and the truck makes a turning sound like it's trying to start, but there is no startup and from what I can hear there's no noise coming from the fuel pump.

What steps can I follow to diagnose this?

I pulled out and checked a few suggested fuses from under the hood and also to the left of the steering wheel.

I'm pretty sure I may need to reset the circuit opening relay, and i may have found where it is (tiny green plug sitting above the fuse box near the steering wheel)
For some reason this green wore is covered in foam and electrical tape, I'm unsure why.

The truck ran perfect before the accident

Nothing to reset, fuel cutoff in a crash is handled by the Airbag module. Cycling the key resets it.

C/OPN Relay is in the underhood fusebox on 2nd gens not under the dash.

Does your CEL come on when you turn the key on?

Is the security light next to the clock blinking with the key on?

Do you have another working key you can try?

Does that not turn off when you have the key in/while cranking?

If it doesn’t, it means your chip key isn’t recognized

are you using a chipped key or a copy? Do you have another chipped key to try?

But it turns on in the run position and it won't start?

So the security light does stop flashing. But the truck still just cranks and does not start?

I think my light stops flashing as soon as it’s in the ignition. I don’t think I even have to turn it to acc. or run.

I will see when I get back in the truck later.

It should if the Unlock Warning (Key In) Switch is working but even if it isn't it should go out when the switch is in the run position and a valid key is inserted.

Just checked. Stuck the key in the ignition. The light comes in for about 3 seconds and goes off. Did not turn key. Just stuck it in the ignition.

OP, does the light stay off while cranking?

I do believe you are right. I have a worn out key that will NOT stop the light from flashing and it will not make the key in ignition warning chirp. You have to turn that key to acc or run to make it stop flashing.

I think we need to go back to the battery change part.
The truck started and ran BEFORE the battery change.

Does the tachometer move when cranking?

Let's start with stuff that doesn't require hand tools, meters, or a scan tool.

I mean aside from a blown fuse or damage from reversing the terminals I can't see why changing the battery would affect the security.

Make sure to check the ECU-B and IGN fuses.
