Whenever practical I always upsize to largest oil filter that will fit, taking into account bypass valve psi setting and max flow rates of the oem filter. For increased oil volume and filtering capacity. Bigger is, sometimes, better.
Couldn't do it on our 98 Sienna because the filter was too close to the exhaust manifold, but, Corolla and Camry got larger oil filters, and the Taco…
It is my personal opinion auto manufacturers will use the smallest oil filter they can fit because they cost less to produce. The pennies add up when you sell millions of vehicles…

    Hey guys,
I just had an oil change a couple of weeks ago and I mistakenly used 10w 30 instead, should I change it to 5w 30, my 05 has 80000 miles on it. Thanks.

All l use is 10w30. My climate never gets below 60°F.
Plus, it's hard for me to find 5w30.

    Same as everybody else...
M1, Pennz, Valvoline or Castrol HM Synthetic with a OEM filter. I get my oil filter from my dealer for about 9 bucks, Walmart sometimes carries them for about the same price

Posting a new oil thread or necro'ing old oil threads should be added to the list of bannable offenses.

1-week ban for first offense, 1-month for second offense, permanent ban for 3rd offense.

That said  -- I use either Mobil 1 5W-30 synthetic, or lately, Costco's Kirkland Signature 5W-30, because everything COSTCO sells is good so their oil must be good too. And nothing but Toyota oem filters. At 3.5K to 4K intervals.

Whenever I hear bs about 8K, 10K or higher intervals on a Taco I cringe. Just don't do it.

A decent synthetic oil you can find on sale, along with a decent filter on sale, changed every 5k miles is always going to win "the best" debate!

No kidding, the OEM filter for the 4.0 is $8-12 even if you get it from the dealer.

You can easily find and order genuine Toyota OEM oil filters from a brick and mortar dealer for the 4.L V6 on Toyota's parts website right now, for less than $5.00 each. The website has a 10% off offer currently: last week it was free shipping. I use the pick-up at dealership option to save shipping and it's ready the next day.

They are available for $4.28 each from the dealership I use (90915-YZZD3) and they throw in a new drain-plug gasket. (90430-12031)

I buy a case of 10 OEM filters from Amazon for $50. Oil is usually Quaker State Full Synthetic. I'm at 150k, so I've tried the high mileage version, but I don't think that makes a difference. Change intervals are 5k.

Just rolled over 192K miles. Still running OEM filter with PPHM 5W-30 every 5K. No noticeable/detectable oil consumption.

Always used the Toyota OEM filter when I had a 4.0L. As for the oil I would recommend Mobil 1 5w30 or Mobil 1 10w30 Extended Protection based on your climate. These two oils have some of the best high heat protection out there.

I have a 3.5L now. Still use the same oils depending on the season.

Re: case quantities. To confirm: I just added -one- filter as above to my cart about 5 minutes ago (90915-YZZD3) on the dealer web site I deal with: $4.28 with free pickup at dealership.
