Anyone else have fit issues with their Bakflip tonneau cover?

The bulkhead on the Tacoma is about 1/8” taller than the bed rail caps. So it causes the cover to lift in that area.

Do I have to alter that bulkhead piece to lower it or did I just receive a defective tonneau cover?

This is what I’m trying to describe:

It's normal. My Bakflip X4S does the same thing. The part that sits on top of the tailgate is worse.

I had the MX4 before I got my ARE shell and the MX4 fit perfectly, I would contact Bakflip and see if they will send you a replacement or explain how to fix the issue. I also had a Bakflip on my previous truck without any issues.

The other end that overlaps the tailgate is almost perfect. It lifts only very slightly. But. I did have to jury-rig a bunch of foam pieces to seal it off from rain.

Such a bummer. If that truck bed part was only 1/8" lower, the tonneau cover would sit perfectly flush. If I had the ability and tools, I'd fashion a custom piece to replace that stock part.

Bakflips customer service is really good. I haven't had any issues getting replacement parts and they replaced the entire X4S cover last summer when it delaminated.

Bakflips quality control on the other hand isn't great. I wouldn't buy another product from them. The Lomax gets much better reviews and is cheaper.

Maybe Bakflip will send you a replacement mx4?

I probably would have gone with that Lomax cover if I had known about it and I wouldn't recommend the MX4 to anyone with a Tacoma. Not only is the fit off, but they re-engineered the entire mounting system. So, if you buy a new one now, the mounting hardware and method is completely different from everything you see on the YT videos--I was so blown away when I opened the box that I had to double, triple check that they sent the right model. I don't see how you can do it with one person now because someone has to hold the rails in place while another person wrestles with the weird mounting hardware in the bed. Not sure why they changed it, but it is much more complicated than you see in the videos. 100% do not recommend.

It's not the cover, its the bed cap. You can loosen the bolts and try to lower it.

Here is a couple of shots for comparison. It is sitting All the way down, the plastic on the inside corner is touching. I had to play around with some weather stripping to seal that area up.
