I had a reroute done for mine, cost me $100.

Following that I became a bit OCD about temps and put a fair bit of heat shielding in place, cutting temps down for the following from ~30-50%
    - Parking brake cable jacket
    - Brake line
    - parking brake outlet plate
    - driveshaft u joint
    - transfer case control module
    - fuel lines

I tried wrapping it but that oddly seemed to make temps WORSE then then without any shielding at all as it was somehow absorbing and radiating approx twice the heat then the pipe when bare
. Perhaps if I coated it in the optional silicone stuff? Moisture was another concern so I just ripped it off.

I put on the clamp on heat shield and that’s it. It’s been fine for the past 8 months. A bunch of hot and cold cycles and a 3k trip through a couple states. There hasn’t been any heat damage.

I think what you have done is more than enough.

If I were you I would pull all that stuff out of there - you don't need it. I had mine done by a shop that does lots of them and the main thing was just the getting some distance from the actuator. I have no issues.

Yeah, I'm pretty content where things are at currently, I was mainly just worried parts were going to prematurely fail due to heat.

Thank you for providing a picture showing the distance between the transfer case actuator & the crossover pipe. I plan to do this on my next truck (2023 TRD O/R). My '15 has a crossover mod as well but it runs the same route as the OE just not as low. I like this better.

Was planning on doing a "tuck" method on mine and just dropped the y-pipe this morning. Intended to re-use the OEM tube and only after I have it on the ground do I realize the this section is double wall!:frusty:

I can only assume it's for heat shielding and also assuming Toyota did this for a good reason. I think I'm going to have to section the outer tubing off, modify the inner tubing, and then piece the outer tube back on. That is really NOT what I wanted to do!

FWIW...I thought I would be proud of this. The challenge of figuring it out at least. But I'm not, this was just too much work.:frusty:
I should have done what Stigman did and remove the double wall all together and replace with a 2" pipe. Anyway...

I had to cut the outer like a "clam shell" to expose the inner tube for cutting and re-welding. 20240803_112430.jpg

Then I had to fit the outer pieces back on and this was more difficult than the inner section because I had maintain a gap between the two. :annoyed:

Might be a decent option if you live in a smog state that does visual inspections as it appears more like the stock exhaust.

I need to find a shop in Ohio or Indiana that will bend the 2" pipe for me.

    Perfection Exhaust in Kernersville NC.
If you go through this thread you see most of them do not replace the Y pipe. I think that is typical.
The shop I went to has done lots of these - < 1 hour and $100 so probably more now.
Anyway I wanted mine further away from the actuator which meant a new Y pipe and an added benefit tucked the exhaust up a bit on the passenger side.
Bottom line it cost me $130 rather than $100. The Tech was really good about it - I apologized for being a PITA but he just shrugged it off and said it was no big deal.
Don't know where you are in VA but any exhaust shop can do it - just show them the pic.
