I just tried to hook up a second dash cam powered off my rear view mirror but only 1 had power.

anyone running two dash cams? If so what’s your setup?

    Edit SOLVED

Confirmed you CAN run two dash cams off the rear view mirror 12v

Not sure why but after trying a few splitters I found one that worked. I’ll post a picture of the item below.

    thanks to everyone who contributed

For reference for anyone in the future:
    Garmin 57 (front)
    Garmin 47 (rear)
    Dongar rear view mirror adapter
Andapa 1-2 usb splitter 12 in
6 in micro usb cord (front)
    10ft micro usb cord (rear)

I can't tell for sure from your picture but it may be that you're using a Dongar adapter? You may be exceeding the current capability of the adapter. Try plugging the cameras in one at a time to be sure that they each work independently. If they work fine individually but not together then the pair of them is drawing too much current through the adapter.

I went with a Viofo that powers the rear camera from the front camera, used an add-a-fuse from the lower left fuse box.

Yes I’m using a dongar adapter and splitting it using the below adapter. Im also thinking it’s drawing too much but I know a few people are running two so there must be a way. The cord is 10ft long so it may be the problem.

Try plugging in the cameras one at a time, directly into the Dongar adapter. That should confirm if it's a cabling issue.

I’ll have to check which fuse it is, it is possible I used one of the unused slots. 21 OR, no sunroof- so I’ve got 2 unused (if memory is correct).

Running a Garmin DC Tandem. Has two cameras. The rear is more for the inside, but if you don't have a camper shell, it is good enough to record reward traffic. https://www.garmin.com/en-US/p/671095

It’s a weird situation, both get power one fully loads but the other stays in the loading screen. Yes both get power one at a time and when I plug in both only the one plugged into the top port of the splitter is turning on.

since one is turning on but not getting through the loading screen I’m wondering if the resistance in the line is lessened will it then get enough power.

That’s pretty cool. Unless I was a Uber driver I’m not sure I would want to record the cab like that. If I was starting over I might consider it lol but over got two cameras already so I’m committed

thanks for checking if you have time. I had another member recommend tapping the cigarette fuse. I haven’t tapped any interior fuses so I’m just curious where everyone is placing their add a fuse

If possible try to connect the one that's not loading with an extension cord and a USB phone charger that fits, or remove it and take it inside and plug it in. Make sure that it boots up then and maybe try reformatting the media card for good measure.

Oh yeah both are booting up independently. Reformatting might be something to try

I have two front cameras and one rear camera. The one linked to the rear camera draws power from the OBD-II port using a cable I routed behind the trim, reason for connecting there being I can toggle it on/off and the OBD-II stays live while parked so you can keep the camera powered on when parking somewhere but turn it off when parking in a garage at home to not drain the battery. The second front camera is higher resolution and has a Wi-Fi option to more easily pull videos off it to your phone, I mainly use it for easily pulling footage of anything interesting I see rather than primarily as an insurance tool. This one links to the front sensor pack behind the mirror, so it powers off when the truck is off and on when the truck is on automatically, so the two camera systems draw power from separate sources.

As it turns off after whatever you set it to, it also turns back on when it detects motion. If a bad dude breaks into the car (and is not deterred but the GBS and the alarm system), it will record the ugly face of the bad dude for you!

Did you routed the rear camera wire through the headliner or did you have to run down to the floor and route the wire that way? I am installing one soon.
