Definitely ease of use/removal/install. Doing it that way is cool for sure, but in the end cutting it off right behind the axle seems to get you exactly what cutting if off right behind the muffler pack gets you and makes it so you dont have to buy or install any tips.

Just cut it off and go. At least that is why I chose to do it that way.

    Great input - thanks.
I've considered cutting it off. I've not had any issues so far scraping the tip, fortunately. I was concerned about fumes in the back (with the Cap).

Good idea cutting it just after the muffler... In this case, one could add a short pipe to point the exhaust to the side - away from the underside.
    Hmmm...

Could be the right time to search exhaust scavenging on Youtube...

Scavenging isn't the same as back pressure.
I was interested in why that member thinks exhaust needs back pressure.

I cut my exhaust in my 2007 FJ cruiser because I smashed the exhaust tip, I started to get heating issues underneath the cargo area.

I eventually wound up rerouting it behind the rear wheel.

    Right!

In addition, I was thinking of turning it a bit towards the side so that the rising warm exhaust has less opportunity to linger underneath the Taco (potentially rising underneath and then accumulating inside the covered rear (cap) or coming in thought the cab vents.

Getting it to the side in this way most of the exhaust would be pushed past the body to the side and then it would rise freely away from the taco.

I don't think accumulation is an issue while moving - it would be more likely when slow-going, or while idling in one spot.

I never had an issue. Even felt up the axle after drives and such. Barely a bit warmer than areas to the left or right.

The only time I even get a hint of a whiff of anything is a rare day backing out of the garage. No different than any other vehicle that we had.

I checked before I chopped and WI more or less says, make sure you have a muffler.
Doesn't say anything about exit position.

That’s slow speeds with the tailpipe, chopped, and the rear slider window open. You might suck in some exhaust fumes into the cab.

The slider open is typical for me as well as plenty of stop and go traffic. Never a hint of anything on my part.

I have much worse drone from my tires than my exhaust. Never been bothered by exhaust noise before or after cutting it at the axle, mine does have the TRD exhaust.

    Cheers!

About the only downside that I have seen, not experienced, was someone in the deep cold places had ice buildup and it affected the brake lines. There is a post about it somewhere around here.

Yes, safety once a year (down from 2x years ago) and emissions in high population counties.
