How is the AC in the 2024?

80 degrees today. Started truck in vent mode, AC off, turned the temp down to 66 degrees, popped the hood and verified compressor not cycling and the cooling fan not running. Watched it for a couple of minutes without any change and shut her off. It has run this way ever since I turned off the auto climate in the vehicle settings.

Not sure how the trucks are designed to work, but they are most definitely performing differently. Why would Toyota provide us with all of the HVAC controls and then allow the truck to decide what is best for us anyways? Regardless, I feel as though they have overcomplicated the system. Look forward to hearing the explanation they provide you with so many contradictions.

Please tell them I will gladly trade an overcomplicated HVAC system for driver seat memory.

i own a 2nd gen truck, and it does the same. ive talked to other toyota drivers, thats just what toyotas do, they will still blow air even when the fan is off

 

See 3rd gen tundras. We dont get to have heat come out the top vents when set just to them. Max temp, max fan, and we get nothing. Sounds like a jet engine is behind the dash though.

 

Youre mis-interpreting whats going on as I added updates....
blower motor is ON in just vent mode, air blowing out front vents while blower motor is on in various speeds, ac, defroster, auto climate control all off...
doesnt matter if the temp control is on a FIRE hot setting or cold, the ac compressor cycles & the engine cooling fan is on...
The ac blows REALLY cold on the lower temp settings while the ac isnt on & nor is the auto ac...

Per this thread, some are experiencing it, others arent.
Ive checked 1 instock at dealer which is now sold.
Ive checked 2 other instocks & theyre doing what mine does which I feel is an issue...

 

First of all, the guys experiencing the issue should get off their asses & get your truck to the dealer, express your complaint & have them check it out....
Play stupid, but tell them you compared your truck to another & the other doesnt do it...
We wont get to the bottom of this, have them dig further if others dont complain...

Wheels were spinning last night & thought, what if the underground color that operated as it should didnt get sold & was just moved next to the other tacos...
Went to the dealer & grabbed the keys to the 2 UG tacos on the lot, side by side...
Set both systems to 70 degress vent only out the front registers, no ac, no auto, no defrost.
One had the engine fan & ac compressor cycling...
The other didnt have the ac compressor or engine fan cycling...
both of them were side by side so if it was a sensor issue, moisture / humidity issue in the system, thats all out the window.

Grabbed the service manager & in my situation he is very knowledgable, he practices as a tech, he practices as a shop foreman also & was explained to me that mechanically hes smarter than the actual shop foreman.
He further explained that the FST explained to him that theres 2 different software programs running in these 24 tacomas.
So, they dont all operate the same, that makes sense to me.
I showed him, side by side.
Wish he would have shared that with me, he just told me it was normal the other day which doesnt make sense when Im witnessing & talking to various people with contradicting results & operating characteristics.
He doesnt have the answer on why the 2 different programs...
They were both from baja factory...

He did say, if your fan is on, cycle the ac switch at every start-up & it will shut the engine fan off & the ac compressor off....

Needless to say im getting more irritated by the day over the dissimilarities...
Theyre needs to be consistency!!!
those of us that have engine cooling fans & ac compressors cycling everytime we have are vents running to get some ambient air in the vehicles, may result in premature engine cooling fan & ac compressor failures due to constantly running....

Mine does this as well ('24 TRD OR). I actually found this post when I was trying to find out if this was normal. It seemed to be strange to me as well that the AC continued to run while in the OFF mode. I also turned off "AC mode with auto" and it didn't change anything. I called the dealership and will update with what they tell me...

Im getting all sorts of stories...
Service manager stating FSE is claiming theres 2 different ac programs running in the ac module / computer...
Then corporate rep is trying to argue with me that the ambient temp could be different in the 2 side by side vehicle that have been sitting on the lot all night when infact I got to the dealer right when the opened....
Not sure if they truly know whats going on, theres holes in their stories...

I asked if the program can be reflashed in mine to act like the others, they responded with a NO, it cant.....
I know it can, they just dont care to as "its normal"

 

like i did, if you start enough of them on the lot & compare side by side, you will see the different system operation...
You need to bring it to them, not just a lame phone call....
Enough complaints & they may re-think their strategy.....

weirdest thing. my 24 did the same thing.. It is almost like the truck is initially set to run the ac no matter what to meet the temp selection set on the dial, no matter if the ac button is active or not. Well, after using the ac button a few times, the AC only comes on if I push the button (or use the "Auto") Weird, but mine is fine now.

 

Service manager explained that to me per the field service, engineers, suggestion, cycling, the AC button at every use turns off the AC compressor and the engine cooling fan. Doesn’t necessarily mean it’s fine now, it’s just a design differently, but not all Tacoma’s act this way, that’s what pisses me off…

Lol. Dude, I just asked if the the AC worked in hot weather. You’ve been droning on and on. You’re the one off your meds.

 

Sorry OP, I’m adding gas to the fire. I just bought a 24 Highlander, and with the AC off (green light off), auto off, vents still blow just as cold as when the AC is on . I’ve seen the same thing reported with new tundras, highlanders, and the new Tacoma. Seems Toyota made some across the board change to ac systems in new models.

I guess it figures it’s hot as hell outside, and I’m going to get ac whether I want it or not.

EDIT: I guess I have to put my foot in my mouth. When I turned the "auto-on" AC config off (it's a setting in the console), it now works normally in the Highlander.

With the amount of torque frombthe turbo the AC should be cold. I've been trying to figure out why new vehicles need this low end torque? I like it, have people been asking for more torque? Why? I think people want colder AC
