2024 Tacoma, Paint defects! Look before you buy…

picked up my white off road premium yesterday and the paint is really good,there was one really tiny dimple in the middle of the roof.I had them put the truck in the delivery bay and spent about an hour going over it,The truck was built in April at the Guanajuato plant.What are the details of this recall.

 

The recall is on the previous gen paint, not the new trucks!

My writer said they have had great success getting the effected trucks paint.
He said he the only one that has been writing them all up, hes the dedicated guy at the dealer that knows the process to get the claim paid.
Customers are stoked!

 

See, I get what you are saying but there are 1st 2nd and 3rd gen Tacomas with white peeling paint. Makes me believe they didnt change anything for #4. Im curious if anyone has proof they corrected the white paint on the new trucks? I understand they are correcting the affected ones but did they fix it from the factory for the new ones coming out?

 

No proof but discussing with my writer, he was certain its resolved...
I dont remember what he told me the issue was, either related to an incompatible or inferior primer or faulty paint make-up...
It doesnt effect me so didnt absorb it...
My bodyshop manager at my ford employer explained that the factory individual paint containers are 10,000 gallons & they dont just buy a few at a time.....
So they years of bad paint instock before they determine theres an issue & where the issue lies...
My other half has a white 2010 lexus rx350, paint is falling off.....
went round & round with lexus, showed them the toyota recall, its all the same paint...
They wont do anything about it! To old....

 

Boeing went downhill after the McDonell Douglas merger and the MD leadership team put profits over an amazing safety culture that Boeing had built.

Shareholder value is all that matters to C-suites anymore. Most of them are paid in stock so the more they can pump that up the better they are paid, good products be damned.

 

Isn't there this thing that many of the large corporations are implementing in their hiring processes that will affect quality outcomes? Have you heard of this? I believe this hiring practice has specific name?

 

We have a silver Honda Pilot (2009 with 210,000 miles and counting) and I'm in some Pilot groups on Facebook. Honda has had issues with white paint for years and years, just like Toyota. There are dedicated groups just for the paint defects, haha. Our silver paint is holding up just fine, knock on wood.

 

For some reason a lot of my neighbors have pilots and depending on the paint, two cars from the same model year can look drastically different.

 

I saw a newer Chevy Tahoe yesterday, white paint, peeling all around the window frames…

 

Meanwhile there are S class Mercedes from the 1980s being driven by stoner grandchildren of the original owners to college campuses by the bay, exposed to salt, that look as good as they did on the showroom floor back when Tears for Fears dropped their first hit single.

 

It would be interesting to know how Mercedes painted then, versus now.

 

All you had to say was "Chevy". Their paint comes off in sheets.

 

My mom likes big American trucks, right now she’s on a TRX kick, but before then she has owned Denalis.

Ever since GM switched over to their super eco-friendly water-based paints, their blacks have not been really black and also the paint comes off and even if the vehicle is in good mechanical condition, totally grenades the resale value.

And it usually happens just after any warranty can take care of repainting the vehicle.

 

Or how much the EPA has been involved in screwing up paint.

 

It was likely oil-based paint, not water paint like they use today.

 

GM has pulled too many fast ones in the past. Like during the diesel craze of the 1980s instead of producing a new diesel engine, they did a quickie conversion of their gas engines to cash in with catastrophic results that the owners had to pay for. Or selling the exact same Chevy parts for twice as much if it came in packaging marked Cadillac. Or dropping Chevy engines in Buicks and Pontiacs when customers paid more for a Buick or Pontiac because they were supposed to be a step up from a Chevy. and on and on with them.

 

GM sucks.
