I have been heavily debating whether or not to update my Tacoma. So, for those who own one, let me know your impressions and what did you drive before?

Traded my 2022 premium for a 2024 premium. Very happy with the many improvements and options that were not available on the older model. ( better ride, heated steering wheel, brake controller, larger screen, camera views, better payload to name a few ) In Canada we cannot option these trucks to the same degree as the US models. I find the 4 cylinder turbo a little noisy and it is more of a nanny truck than the previous generation.

Absolutely. I traded in my third gen for my new 24 and the 24 is better in every way.

Really enjoying the SR MT, coming from a Chevy Colorado and then formerly a Buick regal MT. Reminds me a lot of the Buick in terms of fun, and ride is way smoother than my Colorado. I popped the curb at daycare by accident and it felt like rolling over a smooth easy lump, would have practically lost my fillings in the Colorado.

I got a 24 offroad manual base in Canada. Not sure about reliability but it drives way nicer than my 18 Pro. The coils in the back make such a big difference. And it goes through the Starbucks drive thru just as good.

I've been curious about it myself, for reference I have a 3rd gen and no real concerns or issues with it but I would like to go back to a manual vehicle and I would like the multi-link rear end. I went and test drove one earlier this week and yeah that 2.4l kicks in the low end pretty nice. The multi-link rear seems rad in concept however I couldn't tell any difference from my truck on leafs. I really am not a fan of the MID gauge setup, I know that' s where vehicles are goin but damn if your dash goes out (for whatever reason) you're kinda hosed and I imagine it's gonna be expensive to replace, so that was concerning. Soooo many driving features, felt like more than my truck has but could be the same, thing was pretty much a tablet with how many menu screens there are. That's a 30k view, i'm sure once you set it up the way you like it's probably fine, but I still don't know how to be on board with the all digital display. I liked the cab fine when i drove the truck, I still wish there was more steering wheel adjustability, gottta lower that seat to see the dash, when I got back in my truck it felt like there was more room than the 4th gen.

I don't think i'd miss the rear window but I also like my rear window so that's a conundrum.

I definitely sense that if you're a modder type and load that truck up with weight the turbo will probably shit out without the usual tuning bs and most likely a proper intercooler but thats an assumption. I think stock it'll probably be fine probably even with 33s

I really like bronze oxide as a color, I like that it will fit 33s without lift/rubbing, personally I'm a fan of 4cy Turbo motors, I like the rear suspension, I hate that I'd have to go shortbed for the manual (personal qualm here) If I could get past the dash and the shortbed I would get one but I'm still workin that out.

Anyway, none of that probably helps as I don't own one but those were my thoughts after my initial test drive.

I just traded my 21 OR for a 24 SR5, I wasn't using much of the OR package and barely touched the 4x4. Yes its worth it, the truck feels light you one second in which you dont pay attention and you are 10 over the limit. seats are so much more comfortable and it doesn't feel like you are riding on the floor like the third gens. less bouncy ride compared to the OR and amazing gas mileage, if you dont go crazy on the gas pedal you can easily squeeze 26+ to the gallon. go test drive one and you'll be like "is this what a 21st century tacoma feels like?"

edit: I also wanted to add the 14 in display is fugly, I test drove with one and it just felt so out of place in the tacoma cab

Helpful, but I wouldn’t worry too much about other people’s opinions. Go take a long test drive and decide for yourself if it’s worth all that extra dough you’ll need to fork out.

If you do like it, at least right now the dealers do seem eager to get rid of them.

I have been debating this very thing. I am so mad at my 2021 TRDORDC4X4 because at 13k miles paint is flaking off on 3 doors and one fender so far. I have been looking/driving 2024's 3 times now. For me (a retired Ford Senior Master Tech) I have lived my life in the Auto industry. My 2021 Tacoma was to be my last new vehicle based on its reliability. I think it drives/rides great (all stock). I hate my gas mileage, always averaging 17. I constantly consider the 2024 because I am sure it would get better gas mileage and I really do not need all my TRD stuff my 2021 has. After multiple test drives my thoughts are: The ride felt about the same, low speed power was better, Lots of fancy dash electronics that would put me in the poor house if they fail in the future, first year product with inevitable refinements, an electric e brake that seems weird to an old fart, better rear seat storage access, better braking, and ridiculous pricing. I looked underneath and saw the rear shock mounts hanging way down close to the ground. Doing nothing but Ford drivability diagnostics my entire life I have seen that turbo systems work great but can be fussy. I get back in my 2021 and think "i like this simple tech , proven reliability, and easier to repair". Then I see my flaking paint and the debate starts all over again. My wife is getting mad at me because I flip flop so much on this very topic "is it worth it'.

My thoughts exactly on the paint flaking. I’m going to test drive an OR today

Your paint will be covered under warranty, and you’ll get a brand new fresh paint job.
Keep your truck , the 4th gen is overpriced and simply not worth the “upgrade”
