This is what gets me about this forum. People find examples of trucks spec’d with the highest upgrade packages and then complain about the price. Or even worse complain about the price on their highest level trims like the pro, or TH, completely ignoring the amount of features and upgrades you are getting with those top level trims.

It’s like they completely ignore the SR’s, SR5’s or basic equipped off-roads and sports. A base SR is more competitive than it’s ever been with the new powertrain and amount of safety features now standard. They gave us those leaf spring base trims for a reason.

For models equipped, where is the sliding rear window button/toggle?

They were leaving money on the table. It was awesome for guys like me who wanted an SR5 and didn’t want to pay the premium associated with the off-road. We were basically getting the same truck with the two real upgrades being A-trac and a rear locker. Now you have another reason to be forced into an off-road. I suppose you can always look for a package without the SDM. I don’t know why anybody would buy a truck with a rear locker and then compromise their articulation. Most off-road owners I know never use their locker anyway, so people were already paying for features they don’t use.

No one was complaining about price or at least I wasn't. The example was given to try to show how a Tacoma Prime (plug in hybrid) was probably not going to be priced at 46k considering where other trims are priced.

I don't think the c-channel frame was designed to flex to provide more articulation. Seems like repeated flexing would cause frame cracks and other components to wear out faster. Saying that the more rigid frame on the 4g is a step backward because of the loss of unintended articulation is an interesting observation.

For those who need the articulation (I would argue most don't) you pay $1,300 more for a proper articulating suspension as opposed to a 3g articulating frame.

The BYD truck has an ICE, two electric motors, a larger battery, and a quick charge port - more "stuff" than the iForce MAX. Why wouldn't you start with iForce MAX pricing and add a little extra to that?

The c channel frame was designed to flex and it increased articulation, look it up. That’s why bed stiffeners are such a common mod, the c channel frames like to twist the beds apart. Happened to my truck.

I am glad that they went to a fully boxed frame I think that’s an upgrade in every way. It’s not a step backwards. They had to get creative with a SDM to get the same level of articulation. Feels like I’m beating a dead horse at this point explaining this. That’s why a 4th gen only gets 411 RTI score with the stabilizer connected. It’s about maintaining capability, not pushing it. The 2nd and 3rd gens had such good articulation that a SDM wasn’t necessary. 477 is an awesome score. 489 is even better. I wonder if the pro and TH will get even better scores with their lift kits. That would be awesome.

I agree a Tacoma prime would definitely be pricy given how much rav 4 primes go for in comparison to the regular one. Not talking about you specifically.

Ya that may make more sense since toyota will not give us a base prime,

    hybrid rav4 32k msrp- rav4 prime 43k msrp
max tacoma 46k msrp tacoma prime 57k msrp?
Still way to close to the BYD to consider one of those.

And the only way the rav4 prime made sense was with the 7500 rebates, once those went away you could find one pretty easily. And now you can get them for a few grand off. The prime gets a pretty signifanct power boost to 80hp and 50tq if that stayed the same the tacoma prime could be a monster.

I'm not sure if its still the case but I think at one time when the Rav 4 prime came out it was the quickest car Toyota was making at the time.

I'm not sure where he got his info on 2023's and 2024's but they most definitely are still having the issue. The LX600' and I believe the Sequoia has had the issue pop up recently as well.

Haven't forgotten about destination charge which brings the price up. Starting MSRP is $31,500 I thought it was slightly higher based on pricing of other Tacomas. Rwd utility pkg 23s were like $33k on the sticker.

Is this BYD truck the only ICE they have produced? I thought BYD was EV only, I know nothing about the company.

    Edit

Looks like BYD produced ICE vehicles, and have gone hybrid and EV only. Will they really discontinue pure ICE though? Cheaper all ICE vehicles should be more profitable in emerging markets.

Premium off-road is around 58,500 w/ disconnect and no front locker and the RR is 57 with the front locker. I think Toyota needs to recalibrate their pricing to the competition. IMO

    @jaxyaks

If that's the case, there's no way I'm getting a GX. I prefer engines that don't grenade.
