There is an outfit from Vancouver called Yota Tune coming to town later in the month. It's $590 CAN and am wondering if anyone has had there's 'tuned' and what the differences were. I sort of understand what's involved, but am more of a shade tree mechanic. My Taco is an '09 2.7/5spd access cab 4wd. I have a long tube headers and intake spacer coming from LCE shortly and wonder if there would be any additional benefit with a tune. My end goal is a bit more torque at a lower RPM and hopefully a bit better gas mileage. TIA Cheers, Dave

According to their website, it is an OTT based tune.
OTT is one of the leaders in the Tune business for these trucks.

The important question is, what do you expect from the tune?

As for how much you will benefited? I can't say.
But being a 2.7, You need to have realistic expectations. You already have a 5 spd. So you likely wont get the added "benefit" than an Auto trans would get.

@JustDSM would be the one to know.
(Sorry to tag. But you've always been honest)

Thanks for that. Ya, it's seems auto trans has more to gain.

    Dave,

YotaTune is one of our retailers under the OTT umbrella.

@TnShooter mentioned some tangible gains can be had across the board. You should experience a bit more torque down low, but it's not going to feel like you're adding two more cylinders. We reworked the calibration to breathe a little more life into the 2TR-FE, but there's not going to be a lot of power from ECU tuning on this platform alone. The truck will feel quite a bit more lively and respond much better with the reworked throttle logic we use. Going into it with realistic expectations I am confident you'll come away pleased with your purchase.

Are there any Dyno measurable gains? I wouldn't mind perking mine up a bit, but I'd hope for more than something that feels like a pedal commander type change.,..

We currently lack specific data regarding the 2G Tacoma variant (Single VVTi) equipped with the 2TR-FE engine. We are actively seeking individuals in the SLC, UT, or Birmingham, AL areas to validate its calibration and are offering a complimentary dyno-tuned calibration at no expense to the end user, covering dyno time, licensing, and tuning costs.

Conversely, we have conducted tests with the 3G Tacoma variant (Dual VVTi) equipped with the 2TR-FE engine. Despite calibration limitations, such as remaining in closed-loop targeting 14.6:1 below 5100RPM even at Wide Open Throttle (WOT), we observed a modest power increase on a stock vehicle. Collaborating with VFTuner, we are developing a custom-coded calibration to optimize the fueling logic of the Dual VVTi variant, enhancing low and midrange torque significantly.

Fortunately, the 2G Single VVTi variant does not exhibit this issue, thus we anticipate gains comparable to or slightly exceeding those of the Dual VVTi variant. While direct numerical comparisons wont be accurate, the relative improvement should be similar.

Here's what we did with the 'limited' 3G variant:

Is a 5hp gain better than no gain? Yes,.but you're never going to notice it in your butt Dyno. I have a 3rd gen. I started with ovtune then went on to do multiple custom Dyno tunes. I've swapped back and forth between 93octane and 87 octane tunes. I can see the difference in the timing, but I still don't feel a difference in the driving experience.

The only thing that was ever noticable for me, was the transmission shift points. Also, I enabled 5th and 6th gear in 4Lo.
