So last week while driving to work all the dash lights flashed on and off, Speedo and RPM gauges jumped around erratically and the radio turned off and on.

When I got to work I turned the truck off and it would not start again without a boost. So I put a charger on it for the day thinking it was a bad battery. End of the day it required a boost to start again and the same dash lights and gauge thing happened again.

Put in a brand new AGM battery today and still needs to be boosted to start, took it for a drive and seems to run fine. Once home turn it off and try to restart with no luck unless I boost it. Video added showing what the dash does, when I remove the keys from the ignition the light blink which is new.

cleaned battery clamps and checked ground wire with no change. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

It’s the long weekend here and I just wanted to go camping tomorrow. :frusty:

What does the block ground look like?

    Pictures of the battery cables?

Battery cables are clean and free of corrosion, pulled the main ground and cleaned it off to make sure.

Going to meter the alternator tomorrow morning as it’s too dark out now and I don’t have a garage that the truck will fit it.

    Battery voltage now.
Then voltage drop test if needed.

Where are you hooking your jumper cables when you are jump starting it?

Really looks like a bad ground.

When I boost it and meter it while running it’s giving me 14.2v

    NOCO booster to the terminals/clamps

You need a real jumper first off, not a NOCO because those things are just a glorified capacitor bank.

It really does look like a dirty ground issue.

What the 2 guys above are hinting at, is that terminal ground and block ground are 2 different things.
Also, your alternator is good. So you are wasting your time "testing" it.
You have 14.2v running, the only way you can have that high of a voltage is when the alternator is working.

The dim/flickering lights scream low voltage or bad ground.

What does your battery voltage read key on engine off?

    All good man.

It’s grounded to the engine block by the mounting bolts.
    There is no ground wire.

Also, what ground did you pull?
The one bolted to the fender or the block?

I’m not worried about them lol. I’m more mechanically inclined living in the garage with my dad growing up building and fixing cars, electrical is not my forte.

Turned out to be some corrosion between the accessory tie ins on the positive side of the terminal clamp. A little sanding to clean them off and runs perfect again, always the small things.

I appreciate the replies from everyone though.
