Anyone know where to get a decently priced replacement for the direct injection high pressure fuel pump for a 3rd Gen V6?

Amazon and local parts stores want ~$2200. I could get a seriously newer Chevy Cruze engine for that much!

Found the our Toyota dealer has them for $1297.32. However, I had to get special permission to be able to buy one since they're part of a recall. A recall my truck doesn't qualify for due to mileage.

The same pump for my Chevy Cruze is $124, and the Cruze has gone 182K miles without failure.

    Ridiculous!

Yes, I saw that, and called them. It is a 'campaign' part which requires the dealership diagnosing the issue before selling it to you. I'm guessing a chat with the service manager might allow the diagnosis to be waived. However, they have to special order the part and then ship it to me.

Unfortunately I don't have the time to wait for all the shipping. Was able to have a local Toyota service manager waive the 'campaign' status and am having one shipped from Cincinnati to Columbus (next day ground). Should have the part later today.

Am going to sell this Taco before another 60K rack up to need to replace this new crap pump.

    Thread is dead.

How much did you end up paying for the part? Installing yourself or having a shop do it?

~$1550 for the pump, assorted gaskets and such and tax. Blows big time.

What year is your truck and how many miles on it?

EDIT: The recall is for 10 years from date of first use, regardless of miles.
Tacomas effected are 2016-2022 from Mid Aug 2016- Mid Nov 2022

    No I'm in the US.
    EDIT:
Read that TSB again. 5/60 is the factory coverage for that part. They have extended it in the US. The Customer Support Program number here is 23TE01. And it clearly stated 10 years from date of first use regardless of milage.

Oy veh, that is an insane amount of money for a stinking fuel punp! In my youth, most fuel pumps and filters were outside of the tank and were usually strapped onto the frame. They were dirt cheap and easy to replace.

Holy Christ on a bike, Rolled!

Am waiting for my mechanic to open. He's already bought all the parts.

Feel like Toyota is jerking me around. Was in there last week and was told it would cost me big!

    Eerrrrgggghhh!!!

I don't have access through TIS for Canadian TSB's. If I did I'd look it up. Maybe a google search will find the Canadian TSB

Try calling the Customer Care number for Toyota of Canada

Edit: Has yours failed? The TSB is for Fuel smell from the pump. Tell them you smell fuel from it.

Am in Ohio. Mechanic was fine with everything. He didnt ask for it, but went ahead and gave him 1 hour labor for his diagnosis (which Toyota here charges $145) and time spent looking stuff up.

Maybe I need to drip some gas on it before taking it in?

I called Toyota corporate to report the problem and ask for good will repair coverage; if you do not ask you will not receive. I suggest you do the same. The worst they can say is no, it's worth the time to ask.

I'm expecting a call back from them within the next two business days on a decision if they will cover the repair or not. If they don't cover I'm just going to stick with using ethanol free fuel. Will shoot you an update when I have it.
