Definitely wasn't the arresting part lol, we hardly ever caught anyone. Even if we did, they hardly ever got prosecuted or would take such major plee deals they were back on the streets doing in again within days. It was a 50/50 mix on them going to shops or not. We saw a lot of them being traded on the streets for drugs, then they could end up anywhere from Ebay to ChopShops.

We were seeing they go for $20-40. There was a theft series, same 2 people, hit like 40 houses in Highlands Ranch then 20-30 in my jurisdiction in just 1 night. Not the brightest folks though because they ended up on like 20 different ring doorbells because literally everyone in Highlands Ranch has one.

 

Probably just using these criminals to collect bond money from since they just keep getting caught ha.. sadly the crime escalates and people get hurt

It's honestly embarrassing to be a LEO most places in CO now. I'll spend days putting together a good case and evidence on someone, just for it to reach the DA's office and them decided they don't want to prosecute because they don't want to take a chance their "success rate" will take a hit or they let it plea down just to clear their case load.

They literally told us in a training last year, if we arrest someone in a stolen car, but that suspect tells us "I didn't know the car was stolen", they won't prosecute unless there is overwhelming evidence. Like... there is a screw driver in the ignition and the suspect has a backpack with documents containing their PII in the car... and they have prior motor vehicle theft convictions... what more do you need?
